Nice staff. Hotel is showing wear and tear. Nothing special, but ok.

Had booked this hotel as we got a good deal on the rate for reserving early. Great location close to Union Square also helped in the decision making process as we thought that being spritely 20-somethings we would be out late most nights!

However, not normally being ones to complain about noise I'm afraid that on this occassion i can't refrain!! We had a room (large) on the 11th floor which was very dated and sad looking even though generally clean. You would think that being on the 11th floor would shield us away from any street noise-WRONG!! Every morning we were woken from our sleep at the break of dawn (5-7am!) by either the light streaming in through the crap blinds they had instead of curtains, or else the awful noise from the street below! Add to this that we could hear the children next door scream due to the paper thin walls and you get an idea of the hotels main drawbacks!!

In summary, we would never stay again. It was fine in that we were up early anyway most mornings to get the best of the day, but next time i'd like to choose the hour that i wake at!! Great location was the only thing preventing me from giving this hotel a 'one-circle' rating!!

Avoid if possible, plenty of nicer hotels in San Fran......

We stayed here Spring 2004 and were pleasantly surprised! Great location (1 block from cable car line), nice rooms with good beds, great service, REALLY great restaurant attached. Recommend highly.

We stayed at the Maxwell Hotel in San Francisco over the Labor Day Weekend. The hotel is in a great location and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The lobby looked okay, but we were disapointed with the room. It was run down and the decor was shabby. The bathroom tile on the floor had missing pieces and they had painted over the tile in the shower. The rooms need a major overhaul. Even though we had a good rate,we would not stay there again because of these problems.
