We booked a king suite at the Holiday Inn & Suites Asheville because our first choice next door, Homewood Suites, was booked. Based on the hotel website photos, other reviews, and slightly lesser price, it seemed like a safe bet. The hotel itself is fairly new and our suite was comfortable, if you can find your way to the lobby through (literally you have to maze your way THROUGH) the 3 other business' parking lots off a busy street with no signage. The front desk staff were a really bad joke. I'm not really sure what the clerk was going for with the hippie-gone-straight-for-work look, but if we heard another "right-on" or "that's KUHL" one more time...first impressions really matter, and this was not a good one.
The rest of the hotel is completely forgettable. Everything in the tiny lobby was closed up and dark at 5PM, unlike Homewood which was lively and welcoming . The "indoor/outdoor mineral pool" is more like a large jacuzzi - more than two is a crowd. So,I would say spend a few extra dollars and get much closer to mid-level hotel nirvana than HI&S's meager attempt at executive accomodations.

Most of the previous reviews for this website were overwhelmingly positive, and we found most of them accurate. However, the hotel is directly across from a very run-down apartment building, with mattresses on the balconies and some shady-looking characters.

The hotel was clean, the bathroom was spacious and clean, and it had a nice TV (though not too many channels).

The hotel isn't directly in the night-life action, but it is a very short drive to get there.

My husband and I stayed 3 nights first of June '08. This is a good Holiday Inn and would be great for a family with chrildren. Has not been opened too long. Hotel has great beds. A big room for family. Good showers and hot water. Staff is friendy and very helpful. I would stay here again. Pool is indoor and outside. The hot tub was out of order when I was there due to new ruling about hot tubs. Good food at the rest. and good drinks at bar. Outbacks, Cracker Barrel and a bar-b-que place is right at the hotel (walking distances). Easy to connect to Wi-Fi. I wished I had taken pictures to show but did not. Great place!!!

After seeing the reviews on here I booked this Holiday Inn. The reviews were right on and we had a great stay. Below are a few of the highlights:

*Easy check-in. Took maybe 3 mins and we were unloading luggage.
*Clean room. Can't understate how important this is! I NEVER walk barefoot in a hotel room but this hotel was clean enough that I was OK with it. For me, that is saying something.
*Nice room. Had a nice LCD tv on the wall, which by the way, if you do a channel search you can get more channels than what is initially available, including HD!. Nice little desk area to work from and had a chair with ottoman to put your feet up on. Room included a mini-fridge, microwave and coffeemaker.
*Great location. It is located next to a not so nice motor inn, but the properties are separate so its not a big deal. You can walk to a Outback, BBQ place, Crackerbarrel and Dairy Queen easily w/o crossing any roads. There is an Ingles across the road as well and you are on the upper end of Tunnel road so you are very close to downtown.

Cons:
*Traffic Noise. We were on the 6th floor (the highest) and with I-240 right behind us you could hear the traffic surprisingly well. I was afraid at night it would be an issue but it really wasn't. You might could ask for a room facing the other way though if you are a very light sleeper.
*Low ceiling height. Not really a "con" so much as an FYI. I'm 6'2" and my head was pretty close to scraping the sprinkler heads so if you are a taller guy this is something to be aware of. There is even a warning about that on the elevator so its the same way on each floor. Kinda strange but not a problem for me.

Overall this is a great hotel and I will definitely stay here again on our next visit to Asheville!
