Very Deceiving ad on the internet. Sites are right up against each other, the ONE bathroom is not enough for the people they jam into here and there are 'unsavory' looking characters who apparently live here in run-down looking cabins and trailers. Loud traffic and train across river. Shower is disgusting. It would be very easy to make this place nice, but instead this place is nasty and it seems like the managment couldn't care less. Save your money and go elsewhere. We will never be back.

My significant other and I stayed at this campsite for three nights in July 07 while we were in town to see the Smashing Pumpkins play at the Orange Peel.

Now, let me begin this review by saying that our stay was supposed to be four nights, but the first night we arrived late (it was already dark) and despite me having called to inform the owner that I was going to be getting in late, the front desk was unmanned (and locked) and the owner was not responding to the provided phone number. The campground was not well-lit, and we were tent camping and didn't feel comfortable trying to set up in the dark alone in a strange area (especially given the fact that I was already a bit on edge, having only just passed the sewage treatment facility and the prison, which are a couple of miles away) so we drove back into town and found a wonderful Ramada - but that's another review. I did not receive a refund for the night that we were unable to stay, although it was the MIA owner's fault, not ours.

Anyway, we returned the following day to set up. I was not happy with our campsite, which was not shaded well. The electrical outlet boxes were kind of shabby and had a definite hint of "possible electrocution" to them. The bathhouse was filthy. We had just come from the beautiful Stone Mountain Campground in Georgia, so perhaps I was spoiled, but the shower facilities put me off so much that I didn't shower for the entire duration of our stay, preferring sponge baths.

THE ABSOLUTE WORST part of this experience: the train. OH MY GOD THE TRAIN. After peacefully drifting off to the sound of the river, it is extremely unpleasant to be jerked out of your slumber by a train whose noise is magnified by the water to the extent that it sounds as if the locomotive is about to drive DIRECTLY INTO YOUR TENT.

All three nights we were subjected to repeated awakenings in pure terror at the din. I was not sorry to leave, and I won't be back. I don't recommend you stay here, unless you enjoy being woken up by (unadvertised) deafening mechanical hullabaloo. I sure don't.

The river was great and a nice place to swim but that was about the only good thing. The tent campsites are so close that you might as well share with your neighbor. No privacy at all. Our neighbor on one side of us was a "permanant" resident living in an old WV bus. He was actually a cool hippy guy but I can see how it might make families with young kids nervous.

The owner/manager of this site is a real pill. I always felt like I was bothering him each time I went into the store to buy something, he was not mean, but not friendly which is strange for campgrounds.

Overall you just get this bad feeling about staying there. If you are young couple or group looking to drink and have fun on the river this should be fine, but, for anyone else be warned.

“The only thing going for this campsite is the view of the river”

This campground is not well kept, the grass on the sites is not cut, the electric cords are not in a contained unit. They lay out on the grounds of the campground. There are lots of full timers that live there and most of the campers and rv's are not well kept and dirty. The pictures on the internet are great but they are misleading at this campground. I would not recommend this to anyone.

The photos on the internet are beautiful indeed, but what they do not show you is that the campsites are directly off a very busy and well traveled road. A road that is used primarily by many, many, many 18 wheel tractor trailers, all night. I could have lived with that, but it was the train track that is directly across the river that really did me in. From midnight to 6 a.m. 5 trains went by. As most campers know, who camp on a river, sound travels on the water. Our camper shook everytime a train went by, not to mention the sound of the train going by. We were so disappointed. We had travelled almost 3 hours to get to this picturesque campsite. We had paid for 2 nights, and were unable to get our money back. We left anyway, forfeiting the 2nd night's stay. I will not get into the bathhouse. Suffice it to say that I used an alternate means of relief. On the bright side, the river was beautiful.
