“Wonderful Stay at Applewood!!”

Applewood Manor Inn Bed & Breakfast

18 Mar 2008

My husband and I enjoyed a weekend in Asheville and stayed at the Applewood for two nights. This is a wonderful Inn run by the most gracious hosts. Nancy and Larry really know how to make their guests feel welcome and at home.

We had a suite on the 3rd floor which was very spacious, clean and comfortable. Upon arrival the ice bucket was full, bottle water provided and fresh flowers in the room. The bathroom was large and they provided all the amenities one would need. I especially enjoyed the vanity and chair where I could sit and apply my makeup! We also had fluffy white robes for our use during the stay.

The home is beautiful and the food divine. One could get spoiled being served breakfast everyday.

It was a wonderful stay, we enjoyed the other guests staying in the Inn and hopefully will go back soon.

When we first arrived, Nancy made us feel comfortable and at home. She anticipated any questions and we felt really relaxed that the residence was there for us to enjoy.

We stayed in the Cortland Cottage which is separate from the main house and very private. It was cool outside, but the Tudor heater kept the cottage toasty and warm. Had 2 great nights of sleep and the king bed was cozy. The neighborhood is very peaceful.

Breakfast was outstanding. Try the Dutch Bunnies - Yummmm! Make sure Larry doesn't forget to light the candles, that's part of his job! (That was a story!)

Having stayed at many, many, many B&B's, this is the first time I've experienced one that says they have afternoon tea, and then actually had it available and set up to encourage you to join in. Actually, it is tea, wine, cheese and crackers and was a nice social event to talk to other guests about what they did that day and get ideas for other things to do in the area. Of course, we had been asked our wine preferences ahead of time, and the choice our hosts made was perfect! If socializing isn't your thing, there are rooms and decks all around the house where you can go off on your own.

Don't miss this one, the rates are reasonable and the value is great.

This B&B's location is ideal; 1 mile from downtown Asheville and the UNC campus, and about 3 miles from the Biltmore Estate. It is nestled in a wooded cul-de-sac, so it feels more removed from the town of Asheville than it really is. The complimentary wine and cheese served in the evenings is perfect after a long day on the road. The innkeepers treat you like family members, not customers- and the 3 course breakfast is to die for, we didn't feel the need to eat again until late in the afternoon! The cottage is highly recommended for couples, it has a jacuzzi tub and is pet-friendly.

My husband and I stayed at the Applewood for a relaxing weekend in December, and we loved it. Nancy and Larry were wonderful hosts; we felt completely at home and loved visiting with them (and their two very sweet dogs!). Nancy went above and beyond to accommodate my restrictive gluten-free diet and is an excellent cook. The inn was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We will most certainly return to the Applewood anytime we visit Asheville, and we would highly recommend it to anyone.

We decided to go to Asheville for a long weekend to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was one of the best weekend getaways we've had and Larry and Nancy had a lot to do with it.

From the moment we arrived, we felt as if we were staying at a friend's house and not an inn. The inn is comfortable, not fussy. You are encouraged to curl up on the sofa to read your book or put your feet up on the coffee table while you watch TV. The fireplace in just about every room takes the chill off the cool evenings. And personal touches abound, from the birthday bread for my husband to the lemonade for the expectant mom also staying at the inn, nothing goes unnoticed.

After Nancy settled us into our room (the Winesapp-- it was perfect!), she set out the nightly wine and cheese spread and joined us on a side porch to walk us through Asheville on her "home-made" map. It turned out to be the one thing we took with us everywhere we went.

Each morning, breakfast was a feast - 3 courses and you will eat every last morsel because it's all sooo good!. Don't expect to be hungry for lunch. But do take Larry and Nancy's recommendations for restaurants. We did and were not disappointed.

Larry and Nancy make every effort to ensure your stay in Asheville is everything you want it to be. Not because it's their job as innkeepers, but because it's just their nature and they truly want you to enjoy their city as much as they do. Whether you decide to spend a lot of time at the inn or just a little, you'll love every moment there.

We highly recommend the Applewood Manor Inn, you won't be disappointed.
