The 1900 Inn on Montford is a lovely old house in the Montford Historic District just north (across the freeway) of Downtown Asheville. Here are the pros and cons of our stay:

Pros: We arrived a tad early but were greeted warmly, given a tour of the mansion, and shown to our room upstairs. The ground level of the house is first rate, with a beautiful sun room where wine is served in the afternoon, a shady veranda with lounge chairs, and a pleasant dining room where the communal breakfast is served. The B&B is in a quiet, very accessible neighborhood no more than 10-15 minutes from just about anywhere you would want to go (the owners complained about Asheville traffic, but we couldn't find any). There is easy parking in the rear yard. Beds were quite comfortable. The B&B owners are friendly and helpful about dining suggestions. If you are there on a Saturday night, live music (bluegrass) is played by several first-rate musicians.

Cons: Breakfasts were just OK food-wise, but the folks around the table were terrific. They were from all over the USA. Our room was OK, but none of the doors closed properly (old house syndrome, I guess).

My husband and I stayed at The 1900 Inn on Montford in Asheville, NC, for a few days in February, 2008, around Valentine's Day.
First of all, the Inn is absolutely beautiful without being "frou-frou". We stayed on the 3rd floor in "Zelda's Suite". The Suite was very spacious, with enough space for me and my husband to read or watch television without sound being an issue. The bathroom had been updated and modernized, and was large and luxurious. It had a large walk-in shower that was big enough for two people (!) and a jacuzzi/whirlpool tub. The floor was heated, and although we didn't use it, there was a small t.v.
Breakfast was out of this world! I wasn't sure when I booked if I was crazy about getting up just to come down for breakfast, but the 3 wonderful courses were more than worth it! We actually looked forward to coming down to breakfast. Of course, it is optional for anyone who just wants to sleep in. There was an informal get together with wine at 6:00 in the evening. At that time, the innkeepers, Ron and Lynn, gave us restaurant recommendations and entertained us with local stories and humor. Ron and Lynn were great innkeepers! We left feeling very much like they are old friends.

We were in Asheville the weekend of February 29th thru March 2. I found and booked The 1900 Inn on Montford based solely on reviews I read on Tripadvisor.com, and was not disappointed in least.

I planned the trip to Asheville to propose to my girlfriend. Having never been to Asheville before, I had no idea where or how to find the best place to propose. Lynn not only recommended a lovely spot by The Lagoon at Biltmore Estate, she also happily arranged for a chilled bottle of Biltmore sparkling white wine awaiting us on our return from Biltmore, in addition to recommending a top notch restaurant to celebrate our big day.

My new fiance and I were so impressed with our suite at the Inn and the service delivered by the Innkeepers, we will no doubt return for future celebrations.

Our weekend was fabulous. Over the years Ashville has often been a location for a quick get away. It's a wonderful city and now we have found a fantastic inn that allows us to feel at home while away from home. Ron and Lynn know their business and more importantly, their target audience. Their attention to details is quite impressive...from the lighting system that allowed you to set the mood, to the flavia machine that provided fresh, good-tasting coffee on demand, to the live heritage music on Saturday night, it all came together to provide an absolutely wonderful, relaxing weekend.
The Inn was recommended by friends and we shall certainly continue to "spread the word."
