I've wanted to do some sort of amphibious city tour for a while so when I found there was one in Boston I had to do it - as I've already done a normal city tour when there previously. Plus I was going in summer so it would be great weather.
You can board at the Museum of Science or Prudential Centre but I'd recommend the Museum - it's more central and this is where most people depart from. It's within easy reach of the subway too - not sure about the other location.
The highlight of the tour is definitely the time on the Charles River but the entire tour is fun - including the land portion and just the whole experience in general. All of the drivers (also known as conDUCKtours) have alter-ego characters which they bring out during the tour. Our tour driver was "The Great Garibaldi" who was supposed to be an amateur magician. He was a real laugh and really got the atmosphere going on the tour.
You will learn a lot about the city and it's history and enjoy yourself in the process. The river portion is really good. You don't get wet as the duck goes slow enough but you get some great views. It can sometimes be a bit windy on the land portion but just hold onto your hats and you'll be ok as the windy portions never last long.
Depending on the driver and time available some of you may be allowed to drive the duck while it's on the river. Two people were allowed to on our tour and they really enjoyed it.
So yeah.. I highly recommend this tour. I'm not sure if it's my favourite city tour ever as it really doesn't compare to anything else I've experienced. It's just different, but in a very good way.
