I visited the monument in December with some friends (4 adults). We visited the USS Constitution first and then did the short walk to Bunker Hill Monument. It's about a 15 minute walk. We did this in very cold weather! But it was worth it! There are heated and clean public restrooms at the base of the monument. After fresheing up, we made the climb to the top! You get some amazing views of Boston! Well worth the climb. The climb is not very difficult, but there are landings to take a break on if needed. Check the monument website for times to ensure it is not closed. I also recommend visiting the Constitution while in this area of Boston as they are very close to one another! Have fun and enjoy the view!

For history buffs - if you make it to the end of the Freedom Trail, don't miss the new museum at the Bunker Hill Monument. It has excellent exhibits about the history of Charlestown and the battle itself that really help the visitor understand how that day unfolded. We were hot and tired at the end of a long day, but still spent a good hour in here. The Park rangers were a little glum about visitor statistics so far (they've only been open three weeks) so I thought I'd try to do what I could to boost their visibility. Worth the visit!

Not sure it was the smart thing to do, but walked up to the top on 1 of the hottest days of the year. In spite of the physical exertion, it still was abit cooler inside the structure. Nothing to show you how much you are really out of shape like walking up 291 steps. Made plenty of stops on the way up. & also have to watch out for the people coming down. My leg muscles really hurt for the next 4 days after that. & when finally got back to the bottom, had to rest & recover for a good amount of time. After all that I was glad I did it & saw the view. But for me this is a did it thing & will not be doing it again.

If you can make it all the way up to the top of the monument, there is a great view. Be prepared...there are a lot of steps!

“Felt like I was there at the Battle”

I was in Boston for business and had some time so I walked the Freedom Trail. The Bunker Hill memorial is at the end before you turn around and back track to Boston. They have a model of the battle with little miniature soldiers and cannons and such. It is very detailed. I took the steps (294) to the top and it was a great view but not sure it was worth it. It you are in decent shape and like a challenge then it is but otherwise take your time.
