My wife and I booked 3 nights at the Ritz Boston but decided to leave after 2 due to the unsatisfactory experience.
Location is great. The hotel is right downtown next to the Boston Commons, subway station and the theatre district. Great for both tourists and business travellers alight.
The gym is Huge and fully equipped. It even has a basketball court.
The rooms as okay. Ok size and finish. Nothing bad but nothing distinctive either. Not a Ritz standard though.
The service. Staff are not rude, but you can always sense their condescending attitude. They always do just enough to get by but never there to please.
The parking. If you drive, forget about this hotel. It's $44 on-site, 30 off-site self park a day. This is against advertised rate of 40 and 24 respectively, which they didn't honour. The conceirge were helpful in pointing out cheaper alternatives either (which we found on our own).
Basic amenities are missing. No coffee or tea making facilities in the room. No earphones provided a the gym (they sell them though).
Security is an issue. We were asked for our IDs when we checked in so anyone can pretend to be us. There is also no card limited access through the lifts so again anyone can gain access to the doors. Sure there are police all around the front entrance but they can't tell who are guest who are not.
THE DOWNRIGHT UGLY
Completely uncceptable fire alarm procedures. We were rudely awaken at three am by fire alarm, asked to go down a floor. So we made our way to the floor below only to be told but a staff coming out of the lift that it was a false alarm. There were no staff on our floor directing guests, there were no PA announcements made to stop guests from having to leave the room. Only thing the staff told us was "oops false alarm, sorry". A night's sleep ruin.
Stay at the Four Seasons. It's 2 min walk away. Same price, way better.
