We just returned from a three day stay at the Onyx Hotel in
downtown Boston. We booked this stay on Priceline and
upon arrival were given a corner, very small room. I was
getting claustrophic and called the desk, the next day they
kindly switched our room and I was relieved. The staff was
extremely accomodating, recommending restaurants, attractions and very very courteous. The location was also great as it was
near the subway and the North End which has the best
Italian restaurants in Boston. The hotel is truly a downtown
place, with a very small lobby but all in all OK. However,
upon returning home, I noticed on my credit card which I
viewed online that they had charged $300 to my card. I called
and they said they do that automatically as a security measure in case you used the minibar or if things were missing from the
room! Well, thank you, but how about telling us! We have never
stayed at a hotel that did this. Yes, we received a bill upon check out with the fee for using the valet parking, but another $300 for
security??? Was it because we used Priceline? Anyhow they
said they have released the money and it will come up as a
credit on our card with 48 hours? Has anyone ever heard of
such a policy? Is this something new? Too bad, we had a
great time in a great town, and the staff at Onyx are terrific, at
every level.
