My wife, two young daughters, and I stayed at Rutland Square from Christmas Day to New Year's Day. We stayed in the downstairs room which has a queen size bed, a double bed, and lots of room. It connects to a small room with two sinks, then into the kitchen and a bathroom with a shower and cool composting toilet. This creates a very homey, apartment-like feel versus a large hotel chain experience. The owner is very friendly, but also respects your privacy. He'll chat with you about the house and the neighborhood if you wish. Coffee is always ready to go in the morning and there was plenty of cereal, fruit, muffins, bread, and yogurt for everyone. We like to food shop on our trips, so it was nice to be able to keep our own food in the fridge. There were other people coming and going during our visit and all were very nice. It's an old house with some of the quirks of an old house--noisy pipes, water drips, etc which only added to the homey feel. If you're looking for a 5 star, hotel vacation choose a different place (although you'd miss a fun experience). The location is excellent. The "T" at Prudential is a five minute walk and the South End, including great restaurants like Pho Republique, Piccos, Gaslight, Flour Bakery, and B&G Oysters are ten minutes away. First Night Boston is awesome for kids on New Year's Day. Overall, we had a wonderful stay at the Rutland Square and would stay there again in a heartbeat, or maybe next year, if we're lucky !
