Shelter Island is a pleasant location for smaller meetings and Humphrey's Half Moon Inn has been around awhile. Rooms have a nice view of the marina or pool area many with a pleasant seating area outside the room. My thought many public areas and my room could use a little work.
The carpet had significant stains my the door, the table, and between the beds. A coat of paint and better lighting would also make the room more pleasant. The bathtub/shower looked like it had been refinished or repaired, but it did appear clean as did the sink and toilet. The bed was fine though the bedding was very thin and minimal. The TV had the usual on-demand pay per view options.
Staff here was friendly and helpful. The front desk was cordial and assisted me on a couple of problems. The bar was very noisy and I went to the resort next door for a glass of wine and conversation.
The pool was nice and had the weather been warmer, I'm sure more people would have taken advantage of the lovely setting. The planters looked nice and some had recently been refreshed. Ground crews were visible each morning keeping the property fresh.
There are live concerts and shows here on the weekends spring and summer with some well known entertainers. The outdoor theater looks intimate. Beware if you're not planning to attend the show and staying here...it might be a little busy and noisy. Also, if you are attending the show, the seats have no padding and they are hooked together. You will be touching your neighbor unless they're very slender.
Other properties on Shelter Island looked like they've been updated or rebuilt including Island Palms and Kona Kai which looks to be the former Shelter Pointe. Bay Club next door looked better maintained.
Humphrey's is still a pleasant place to enjoy on Shelter Island. A little paint, new carpets, better bedding would go a long way in returning the property to its potential as a much higher than average resort.
