Just returned from a refreshing weekend in San Diego. I had a business seminar and my husband accompanied me so we could enjoy the evenings together. we arrived at the hotel on saturday afternoon at 1pm and were able to check into our room early. this was after absolutely no wait at the front desk and without calling ahead to ask for early check-in.
parking at Emerald Square (plaza hotel is part of) is $24/night for self parking. right across the street, on columbia, there is $15/night parking - however, both lots do not allow re-entry. this worked out just fine because the hotel is walking distance to the water, as well as, all the restaurants and nightlife. we thought this was great because it allowed us to enjoy the crisp San Diego air and work off all our great meals.
we were given a nice king bay view room even though i had just booked the $179/night rate for a standard king room with a city view. the HUGE king bed lived up to prior reviews of comfort and we guiltily watched 2 movies on the flat screen over our weekend for $11/movie - obviously overpriced but a good selection of current films. i agree with previous comments that the room is somewhat small in comparison to other standard hotel rooms. we didn't find it bothersome, however.
we enjoyed drinks and an appetizer downstairs one evening and our bill came to $35 - probably typical for a lobby bar. my husband enjoyed the outdoor pool and free weights in the gym during the day and got some work done in the hotel office room in the lobby - equipped with glass desks and computers (though he used his own wireless card to avoid the internet charges).
the taxes applied to hotel rooms in San Diego are high, and brought our nightly rate up to $201/night - this is a downside of staying in San Diego.
overall, a great stay!
