The hotel is located a couple of blocks from Amtrak. They have a shuttle bus from the airport. Upon check in, the room was not made up. Which was initially ok, because they sent us from the 10th floor to the 22nd. But the new room was smaller. Sometimes my 7 year old daughter walked into the bathroom after opening the room door, because of the design of the room. View was nice from 2221, with some bay and Coronado. Beware, they are starting to dig foundations in front, so I am sure in a year there will be no view, what with a new building. The air conditioning is noisy, and the sink makes a Glug Glug sound for a few minutes after running water (air in the pipes). We were smart and didn't rent a car until the day we wanted to visit the coast up to Oceanside and back inland to San Diego. $28.00 per day parking at the hotel! You can take the #7 bus to the Zoo from 1st and Broadway. $2.25 each way. Free for 5 and under.
We arrived around 2pm. walked over to the Gaslamp district, about 8 blocks, then down to Seaport Village, back through Horton plaza. Had dinner at Blue Point on 5th....very $$. $135.00 for 2 adults and 1 child. The second day we took the bus to the zoo and had dinner at Henry's pub on 5th. $50. Including a beer(Newcastle). Unlike Blue Point, Henry's has a kids menu. We then rented a car from Avis on Kettener and Cedar around 8am for $50 incl taxes and booster seat. We drove up the coast and then back for a 6pm departure from the airport. I would stay at the hotel again, but only if I use my miles like I did this time. Otherwise $250 per night inclusive is a little high for 2 adults and a child.
