My family absolutely LOVED this hotel. We have young children ages 1, 3, and 5. Upon arrival, we were greeted by friendly front desk staff and given a ground level room which we had requested. Our suite was spacious, even with a crib in the room. My husband loved the flat screen tv's. There are lots of restaurants close by, and Subway and Oggi's are both walking distance. There is a big navy ship cemented into the ground next to the hotel which was an amazing sight for the kids. Alsothere is a big grassy area to run around and play and a basketball court.
There are full kitchens and dining room tables. We borrowed a high chair from the hotel's main dining room which made meal times easy for our 1 year old. We stayed for a weekend so we didn't get the evening meal but there were great choices for breakfast including lots of hot and cold items, juice, etc. My daughter enjoyed making her own waffle in the do-it-yourself waffle iron. The only thing I would say about breakfast is that the breakfast "hostesses" were not very friendly. They were not outwardly rude but they did not speak or smile the whole time we were there. They just stood next to the food with stony faces and replenished items when necesary. My husband joked that they should be called the "breakfast wardens" instead.
We stayed here for an event at the san diego sports arena which was just a 10 minute drive away and downtown san diego was just a short drive away also. Overall I would say that this is a great hotel for families with young children and the breakfast is a great perk that will save you lots of travel time and money and will not dissapoint. *One important tip, request a room away from the elevator or you will end up asking to switch rooms. The elevator noise is VERY LOUD in the rooms right next to it on either side*

“Hotel was great but view ....”

Homewood Suites San Diego Airport - Liberty Station

This was the first time we stayed at a Homewood Suites and we were looking for a nice hotel with free parking... We chose this hotel because it was newer in age and had some good reviews, looked technologically updated and had a close-in location near everything we wanted to see. The picture we saw of the hotel was across a bay and it looked very nice so we opted for the bay view room (paying extra for the view). Everything about this hotel was great...except for the "bay view". The check-in was fast and the staff was friendly. The room was sufficiently large (1 BR) for our purposes with a complete kitchen area and small living area. The room was very clean and looked like new. The king bed and pillows were very comfortable. There were nice exercise facilities and laundry room. There were a lot of families with children. The breakfast was good with scrambled eggs, potatoes, toast, muffins, fruit and waffles...The eggs were pretty much tasteless but once doctored up were adequate. There was bacon on some days we were there. The location was great for sightseeing and close to most tourist areas. There were good restaurants nearby. Our experience there was very good, but the bay view in our opinion was not as advertised because the majority of what you see is a bridge (not the bay)...it definitely wasn't worth the extra money paid for a "bay view". I would stay there again but I would book the cheaper room without the view.

The best thing is that the construction is new; the worst thing is the noise and location.
All day long we could hear the airplanes taking off from San Diego Airport. The location is not really on a beach or any water you could swim in. It is the side of the channel that the freightliners come in and out of for San Diego. We walked over to the rocks where the water was and it smelled like dead fish. Just not a good site for enjoying San Diego. Check out The Dana in Mission Bay.

My wife and I (we're retired) spent the entire month of March 2008 at this beautiful new hotel (opened in September 2007). Our experience was outstanding.

The two room suite had a functional kitchen with a full refrigerator, a stove top, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and waste disposal in the sink. The cupboards were stocked with pots, pans, glasses, dinner waye, cups and flatware. Everything was in tip top condition, The bedroom featured the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. The pillows were ample and soft and the linens were crisp and clean. The bath had a tub/shower and there were plenty of towels and wash cloths.
A desk, office chair and comfortable sleeper couch were in the living room along with a nice table and chairs that my wife used as a vanity.

Also featured were cables to hook up your laptop and free internet connection (wifi). There were two flat panel TVs, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. A video game control and hookup was available for extra charge.

The door to our room had a gap around it that let in a breeze from the hallway. We complained about it and management had weather stripping installed which eliminated the problem and they promised to have the building contractor repair the door properly. Our bathroom sink stopper didn't stay shut and maintenence promptly took care of the problem.

Each morning there was an excellent buffet breakfast featuring scambled eggs, bacon or sausage, fried potatoes, hot oatmeal, cold cereals, a fruit bar with cut melon, mandarin oranges, peaches, yogurt and cottage cheese. Some mornings the menu varied with biscuits and gravey. The menu selection always included Beligum waffels, whipped cream, strawberries (frozen), syrup, powdered suger. Apples and bananas were also available along with fruit juices, 2 percent and skim milk, coffee and tea.

In late afternoon, Monday through Thursday, a light meal was available. Somedays it was meatloaf and potatos, or tacos, or lasagna, or spagettii and meatballs, etc. On Saint Patrick's Day a special meal of corned beef and cabbacge with potatos was served. The meal was accompanied with a salad bar with various dressings available along with draft beer and wine. The excellent meals came with the price of the room.

The hotel has special rates for long term stays and the moderate cost of the room coupled with the good breakfast and light dinner made it quite a bargin and money saver.

The entire staff was excellent and helpful from front desk to room attendant to maintenance, management and kitchen. Everyone we encountered was nice, professional and helpful. The hotel was very clean and the staff took an obvious pride in keeping it that way. the grounds were beautifully maintained.

The location of the hotel was outstanding. While it is close to the airport we never heard any airplane noise beacuse the hotel is not under any flight path and there are no flights during the night, I believe from midnight to 6:00 AM. Very quiet. We were there during spring break and there were many families and a lot of children in the hotel. None-the-less it was quiet.

The Hotel is located on a former US Navy Training base which has been redone over the years and is beautifully landscaped with walking trails, benches everywehere with plenty of lighting. A very pleasent place and we think the best place in all of San Diego. There is a Von's and a Trader Joe's just a short walk from the hotel along with some good restaurants.

We did not have a car during our stay and instead relied on public transportation. A metro senior flex-pass, good for one month, cost $16 each and was good for any bus or trolly in the excellent San Diego County transportation system. It also provided discounted fares for riding the Sounder Train. You can buy the senior flex-passes at Von's.

All in all this is a first class hotel that deserves four stars from AAA not just the three stars they have awarded. Great for families with children. We highly recomment it.

It is in a safe location where you can walk around at night.

After spending only one night at Homewood suites, my only regret is that we didn't have more time to extend our stay. We arrived around 4:00pm after a day at the San Diego Zoo in which the temperature was hot to say the least. Upon check in, the staff was very helpful in pointing out the different restaurants and attractions near the hotel. Shortly after check in, we settled into our room which was very clean and spacious. There were two flat screen tv's with cable (including ABC family and Cartoon network) as well as a sofa bed for the kids. We walked the grounds of the hotel and enjoyed the pool. The water in the pool was a bit cold but still an enjoyable evening. I regret not taking advantage of the breakfast buffet the following morning as It looked really delicious but had entirely too many guest and not enough sitting space. Overall experience was great. Good quiet location within decent distance to all attractions. In case anyone wonders: As a Hilton Honors gold card member, not much in the way of upgrades, but it's not really needed at this Hotel.
