My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The US Grant.
I HIGHLY recommend spending at least one night in this magnificent historic landmark.

We were greeted upon arrival by a valet attendant, a bellman and a very nice lady--a manager possibly. They immediately removed items from my hands (i.e. water bottles, papers) that I intended to discard. Our check-in was expedient and pleasant. Every staff member at the US Grant was pleasant. We've stayed in a lot of nice hotels where customer service was non-existent. That is NOT the case here. All staff members went above and beyond for us.

We booked our stay directly through the hotel. The gentleman assisting us with our reservation was VERY pleasant and helpful. We were given a corner room with huge windows and GREAT views. The Rock and Roll Marathon was going on and we enjoyed waking up to watching the runners partake in this grueling event.

The entryway had a nice sized closet and bar area with a beautiful painting and hardwood floors. Cozy overhead lighting.

The living area had elegantly modern yet comfortable high-back chairs and a VERY comfy King bed with a beautiful rug below. The painting above the bed was consistent with the modern theme--BEAUTIFUL. There were adjustable overhead lights above the bed that made the atmosphere feel like we were right at home.

In case you must work, there was a stunning dark wood desk with convenient plug ins.

The bathroom was very extravagant. Travertine floors and shower. Gilchrist & Soames toiletries. Two very comfortable robes and oversized towels.

The location was PERFECT. It's in walking distance to sooooooooooo much. Horton Plaza is right across the street.

The bar right across the street has hundreds of beers on tap and a great selection of food--for a quick bite.

When in San Diego, we will be staying at The US Grant and recommending it to friends and family. It was truly a weekend to remember.

We stayed one night at this hotel with our 2 children. It was very nice and clean. The beds were very comfy. The rooms are not huge but they are perfect for 2 people!!! Well decorated. The best part of this hotel is were it is located. You can walk anywhere you need to go. Valet is pricey just like every other hotel in SD. But they are very quick to get your car. The only problem we had was with the air conditioner unit, if we turned it on high it made a terrible noise. We never ate at the hotel because there are so many places around you can walk to. Also, shopping is right across the street.

“Love this hotel”

The US Grant

16 Jun 2008

I booked over 20 rooms at this hotel for my staff and the entire staff loved the hotel with the exception of one employee. I was given an upgrade to a Jr suite and my room was amazing. The room had a small area in the front for coffee and it opened into a small living room. The living area consisted of a sofa, TV, and a desk. This area became my living space for 10 days. The living area lead to the bedroom. The bed was VERY comfortable. The bathroom was huge... the room was great. It was comfort at its best. I loved this room. It was so nice and comfortable. The one complaint I got from a co-worker was that his bed was so close to the door he felt trapped. I never saw the room, but everyone else in my party loved their rooms. The gym is small... but its free. Room service was excellent, expensive, but the food was very good.

“Not Quite Excellent”

Wonderful, beautiful, hotel, centrally located within walking distance to the harbor, the Gas Lamp District, the ballpark and a short drive to Coronado Island. The service was very good but the hotel was off just a little in a number of areas.

The valet and doormen were wonderful, the reception personnel professional but I"m not sure about the concierge who gave us a very mediocre Mexican restaurant recommendation.

We had reserved a top floor room with king size bed which upon arrival were told they were sold out and only had double beds available. After a moment or two the receptionist found a small suite on the 8th floor. We were aware of the noise potential problem but figured eight floors up we'd be ok and we were. The windows did rattle when the air conditioner went on and off due to the pressure change but not enough to keep us awake. The room was decorated very nicely with a great wall to wall persian style rug, wonderful linens and a great bed. One problem, no shower curtain. Housekeeping is called, one is brought up but it's too short. Second call to housekeeping brings a correct shower curtain.

Valet parking service was excellent with the car being availabe within 5 minutes of calling down but at $30/day with unlimited in and out I'd hope so.

We had breakfast at the Grant Grill which was excellent. However, we were told the Grill opened at 6 am which their literature also states but when we left for the airport for a very early morning flight, the Grill was not open and we were told it opend at 6:30 am. Still not sure which is correct but when we left at 6:30 it was still not open.

All in all a beautiful hotel but when we come back to SD wel will stay somewhere else, probably nearer the beaches.

Every Memorial Day weekend, my husband and I go to San Diego. If you want to experience excellent customer service, stay at the US Grant. The hotel is impeccable. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom spacious. The location is fantastic. You can walk to the mall and to the many restaurants in the Gas Lamp District. The only drawback is paying $30/day parking. But all the hotels charge similar parking rates. This was our first stay, but we'll return soon
