So after putting down a credit card to reserve a room (followed by an email that assured us NOTHING would be taken off the card until we arrived in New York) the EXACT same thing happened to us as the guy below: suddenly $600 was taken off the credit card.
I wised up and came on tripadvisor and saw the other reviews. Suffice to say, I contacted 'Marcial' from Antique B&B immediately - however I didn't let on that I knew (well, I assumed) he was running a scam. So just like the guy below, he got back to me saying it was an 'administrative error' and that he'd 'look into it'. At that point I was pretty fed up so I responded basically stating that I knew he was running a scheme and to give me my money back 'cease or desist' type email.
He gave me my money back with some absurd raving email that basically stated he wanted to 'press charges' against me for using a 'fradulent credit card' (this is my partner's card, so...either way, its irrelevant) but basically, I'm pretty sure that Marcial is insane and I would warn ANYONE against staying there. Totally unprofessional.
Anyhow, we ended up staying with http://www.eastvillagesuites.com/ and the dude who runs the place is awesome. the accommodation was great, can't give it enough props. Antique Cafe, however, is a load of crap. stay away.
