This is really a hidden gem in Manhattan on the corner of Broadway/29th, close to all the main venues. Walking distance from Midtown/Time Square/Central Park and also from Chelsea/Meatpacking District and the Village, this über-cool hotel close to the Empire State Building has it all!
The first impression arriving with a cab from JFK is unforgettable : you enter the lobby and you walk straight into an impressive lounge where people sit and mingle, and a nice bar at the bacl-end of the lounge serves cocktails. The reception staff is very personal and friendly and in a zip you are checked in and on the way to your room. The room that we booked was very different from anything that we are used to in "normal" hotels. It had a nice SMEG fridge with lots of drinks, a very nice set of snacks, a guitar, wall paintings and an small but comfortable bath room. The wifi in the room and in the lobby/lounge is fast and free !!
The medium 4 person room that we booked was not super big, but comfortable enough for the 4 of us and as an extra, it came with a nice big wooden table to seat us.
The two restaurants in the hotel look very good and we tried the John Dory Oyster Bar. Excellent food with exciting tastes, in a super nice setting, but extremely small portions. You will need to order several in order to satisfy your appetite. However, the atmosphere and the taste made up for that.
All in all a perfect experience in the middle of Manhattan. Very reasonably priced in the heart of the summer. Definitely a hotel for people that look for something different than the average hotel chain room. The atmosphere in the hotel lounge and the rooms and the arty level of luxury make it an unforgettable stay. I saw that they have very different room types, including rooms with bunk beds as well. I looked into one of these rooms and they are very small, relatively inexpensive, and probably good value for money for two, if you are not a couple...
Please check out the type of room that you are looking for. This hotel has very different room types...
