This is our go-to midtown upscale hotel when we are staying overnight in NYC. Service is always excellent and the rooms are always very clean, well appointed and quiet.

Look for a deal as regular room rates are very pricey, but under $350 deals can be found.

Room tip: Avoid rooms near elevators if possible, although even those are not loud.

It was tied with the Waldorf Towers as my favorite place to stay in New York, NY. You could walk to most of the sites in Manhattan. There is a great French bakery , you should try. The service was so good could good, example The restaurant was closed for breakfast, but you could go next door to Maroni and Percale which the hotel contacts with. When the concierge did she practically showed me like Maloney and Porcelli belongs to the the hotel. The rate at 1990's Waldorf Astoria, New York price.

Sincerely Jeffrey Strasser from Dublin,Ohio

I an in NYC multiple times year and this hotel has always been one I enjoy.. I am now sitting in my lovely room eating a McDonalds style sandwich for breakfast. Why am I here instead of the lovely room where I normally eat? Because....some genius has decided guests no longer care to sit down in an attractive dining to enjoy a good meal. I heard 3 other guests while I waited for my McMuffin ask what happened to the dining room. Oh, the sandwich is lousy so in the trash it goes and I will head out the door to the Waldorf down the street. That is also where I will be staying when I return to NYC next month. They have a lovely Sun brunch that is worthy he price. So long NY Palace!

Room tip: High floor with view of St Pats. Don't cone if you like breakfast

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights last week. The hotel is very plush and well situated in the heart of New York. The first night we had an ongoing noise that stopped my wife from sleeping. We called an engineer to look into it, thinking it may the the air conditioning but he said it was general New York noise! The noise contained throughout our stay preventing us from getting a good nights sleep. In the end we we realised it was the elevators making the noise and created a fuss to the management who initially blamed the construction site next door but when pushed they admitted they often get complains about the elavator noise. We paid top rate for the room and should expect a relatively quiet room, I don't expect a totally soundless environment but do expect to be able to sleep at night.
We have made a formal complaint and are awaiting the outcome but I would advise future visitors to this hotel to ensure they are not located close to the elavators.

Room tip: Avoid rooms close to elavators

Spent two nights here. The renovation at the time were underway, but it was done in a way that was not overly disturbing for us. The location is near everything in the center of the City, so walking is convenient from this location. Service was fine, and they accepted our luggage in advance of our check in time. The room overall quality was outstanding with newly renovated bathrooms, very comfortable beds, and views that could not be beat overlooking the Cathedral. Pricey and worth it. CH

Room tip: Stay was summer 2013.
