Love this hotel and stayed here 4-5 years ago. It dropped off my radar but booked 6 nights on a business trip where my girlfriend came with me. Love the hard wood floors, great free Wife and Momofuku ma pec restaurant next door. Terrific location and staff. I commented about how the AC was so quiet. The bathroom is also pretty large by NYC standards. Now here are the buts...
In the middle of the night and early morning, there was a loud screeching sound. Turns out the folks upstairs were taking showers and the water pressure woke us up. It was very annoying. We had to change rooms and the management gave us a small credit for the two nights.
We moved up one flight. That problem was solved (we realized it was probably our shower causing the noise. But it was less an issue for us. The first shower my girlfriend took, the water flooded into the room. I thought it was because she didn't close the shower door. When I took a shower, I was careful about the door but the flood continued. I was too embarrassed to complain and didn't want the hassle of moving again. So we used half our towels to mop up and dam the shower door.
When we retired for sleep, it was impossible for my girlfriend to sleep. Only after she commented, did I notice the same problem. We went from the quietest AC to the noisiest. The fan is always on and from our bed, it sounded like we were in an airplane.
Needless to say, despite my affection for Chambers, my girlfriend was not pleased. Tonight, I told the front desk about the shower, but didn't mention the AC cause I didn't think they could do anything. So we endured the last 3-4 four days of our 6 night stay. Would love to give it another try but we shall see.
