In short: if it's the cheapest hotel in NYC, stay in Jersey.
$690/night for a standard room (stayed for 3 nights)
Dank, dated room
Bug bites in bed (http://tinypic.com/r/2vudohl/6)
Awful bed (besides the bugs)
Brand new iPad stolen out of my bag in while in their storage
Absolutely no refund or reduction of my bill.
I recently stated at the Elements hotel and it was unfortunately the worst stay I've ever had. I spend most of time traveling for work so I've stayed in quite a few hotels. I'm a platinum Starwood member and I usually love their hotels.
The first issues: extremely high price for a 2.5-3 star hotel, the dank room, awful bed, and bug bites were frustrating but to be honest I was going to let them slide and not write a review. That said, when my iPad was stolen out of their bag check room and it took them more than a week to tell me that they could offer me "nothing," I felt I had to write a review.
I'm an attorney, I know what it says on the bag slip regarding their liability. That said, if they handed me a piece of paper saying we are not liable for shooting me in the face and then shoot me in the face, guess what, there will be liability. The point is basic customer service and to not offer me any recompense for the stolen iPad was in poor taste.
Note: there were members of the Elements staff that were very courteous and helpful. There are just too many good hotels in NYC to spend money at the Elements.

Hi Dreborn - As discussed on our private phonecalls to one another, we have an extensive system of surveillance cameras overlooking our luggage storage area. After hours of reviewing this footage, we found no reason to suspect foul-play. Also, when your missing I-Pad was originally reported, you were unsure whether or not it was actually in your luggage.

I apologize for this situation. If we were at fault, we would take the blame 100% and make the situation right for you. However, after much extensive research, no fault could be found.
Also, there was no mention of any type of bed bug infestation in your room during our conversations. This accusation only arose after we informed you of our findings. However, despite this, we did have our professional Pest Control company do a thorough inspection of your room, and found zero evidence of any type of infestation. I have their letter that certifies their findings. We take these types of accusations very seriously. We have a very aggressive pest control program in place at our hotel, and take pride in it.
Please feel free to email me directly at Michael.Williams@elementtimessquare.com if you would like to continue this conversation. Thank you!
