I`ve been in New York City several times, but never in an apartment, as a new yorker. It would be the first NY travel to my family, so I decided to stay in a flat.
Good: kitchen, wash machine, out of touristic places.
Bad: one bathroom to 5 persons, no housekeeping.
We discovered East Village Suites in Trip Advisor. I contacted Chris, the owner, and he was very kindly at all. I explained our profile and he booked for us Suite 3, in main building.
But three days before he changed our suite. The new one would be Suite 10, in E 13th st, near First Ave (close to Subway).
We arrived and the place was smaller than it should be. It is perfect for two couples (two bedrooms, a normal couple bed in each). We were 5, a couple and 3 teenagers. Two of them stayed in the same bed, the third slept in a small mattress, in the very small living room. It is really impossible to stay in the sofa (worse than in jail).
The kitchen (small, small) in good, new stuffs. But be prepare to suffer in a small place (why there is no curtain in the bath?), even worse if you are in five.
But after all New York is a great city - and you are there to be out of the flat, right?
There is a 24 hours open market in the corner (13th st and 1st ave) and some pizzas and fast foods around. Hot and Crusty (14th st and 1st ave) is a good place to take a breakfast, in front of metro station.
In Union Square (walking distance) there are two good supermarkets, where you can buy fresh fruits, food and whatever you need (The Whole Food and The Food Emporium).
Do not miss McSorley`s pub, in 7st (walking distance), the oldest bar in NYC.
So, if you are two young couples, ask for Suite 10. If you are a family, try another option.
