We stayed at this hotel one night at the beginning of September. Based on what we've paid in the past for NYC, I felt that the $300 with tax price was a bit high, but all rooms in the city were high, so it must have been a popular weekend.
This hotel is very conveniently located; just 5 blocks from Penn Station. While is can be a bit seedy at night, the neighborhood felt safe during the day. There are plenty of restaurants around the corner, on 8th Street.
The front desk staff is very polite and helpful. We arrived at 11 and I called from the train station to see if we could check in early. They were able to accommodate us and, because we were Rewards Club members, we also got a late check-out of 2pm. How often do you get more than 24hr in a hotel room?! Our room was on the 4th floor and was very quiet. The staff was also very helpful when asked for directions and tips for getting around the city.
This is the 3rd IHG property I've stayed at in NYC and it's definitely got the smallest room, but that's to be expected. The room (415) had 2 (small) double beds, and there was just barely enough room to walk along the outsides of them. The bathroom is standard size, with enough room in the tub for an adult to bathe. Because we had a room that opened up onto a patio, it was very quiet. My one complaint is that the A/C unit didn't stay running all night, so I woke up to silence and had to crank the temperature down to get it running again.
The "free" continental breakfast was ok. It was nice to not have to shell out more money for a meal, but it wasn't anything special. Basically, pancakes, bagels, microwaved omelets, sausage, yogurt, cereal and cinnamon buns. The breakfast area is WAY too small for the volume of people at the hotel. You're literally bumping into people as you try to make toast or whatever. One pancake machine is also not enough.
All in all, this hotel is a great place to stay in NYC.More
