Very nice suite, great location, fast check-in. My room wasn't quite ready once I checked in and went into the room... There seemed to be a mix-up between front desk staff and housekeeping. They bought us a drink at the bar (next door) while we waited for our room. Drinks were great, beautiful view :) The room was clean and nicely furnished. Not a huge suite, but it was sufficient. Very nice contemporary furnishings. I loved the bottled water, which is very important to me. Coffee and tea is available 24/7, which is quite nice. I would love to stay here again. It's a jewel and a gem.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here and found the location to be perfect. There are a number of places to eat, as well as a pharmacy, within walking distance. The room had everything we needed and we appreciated the modern decor. The front desk staff were all nice and professional, and went above-and-beyond to ensure guests were happy, could get transportation, etc. Our room wasn't facing the street, which was a big bonus from a noise city-noise perspective. Unfortunately, the noise issues we DID have were internal (not city/street related).

The only reason I'm giving it 4 out of 5 stars is because of the other staff: cleaning and maintenance. Constant noise by the cleaning crew (or perhaps neighbors) throughout all hours of the night woke us up many times, leaving us feeling drained the next day. All night, we could hear them rummaging around, thumping the walls, etc. They were also quite noisy in the halls when they began their morning cleaning... talking in very loud voices, banging all the walls with vacuum cleaners, etc. Not cool before 8am, when you're vacationing and want to sleep in.

One evening, one of the maintenance guys knocked on our door--despite our "do not disturb" sign--at about 6pm to ask if he could install a bumper/protector on one of the walls in our room. Suffice to say his timing was terrible. We had the DND sign on the door for a reason. Regardless, he was polite and left, but asked that we notify the front desk when we headed out for the evening so he could come back and install the piece.

Despite these issues though, we will probably stay here again if we ever return to New York. It sounds like I just unloaded a lot of negative info, but those issues were more of an annoyance, and not a deal-breaker. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Room tip: Like most rooms in New York, the cheapest rooms are very small. Pack light, or pay for a larger room. Request a room NOT facing the street. Take earplugs--the staff are noisy.

Had a great time here, the free lattes etc were most welcome, as was the free chilled water and bottles that we took around with us. The location was perfect for us, right in the center of everything, and felt a bit more up market than some of the other areas we saw. The room a was a little noisy at night due to fan machinery outside our room (we were 4th floor) but they provide a free bag of stuff to help (lavender oil, eye mask, earplugs etc), which my wife found useful but I was ok without it. Staff we saw were great, let us leave our bags there until 4pm, and used the toilets coffee machines after we had checked out too.

Room tip: I guess higher floors would have less AC noise, they would probably have moved us if we had asked but it wasn't too bad.

We made an impromptu trip to New York and wanted a place to stay midtown, as we had theatre tickets and planned on spending the weekend playing tourist. We wanted someplace centrally-located, but not outrageously expensive (as New York hotels tend to be). An internet search found The Jewel. And what a jewel it is!

Located on 51st Street between 5th and 6th Avenues, directly across from Rockefeller Plaza, The Jewel has a tiny little entrance and virtually no lobby. Check-in was a breeze, the staff are helpful and friendly. The elevator can only be operated with the room key, there's free water and bottles on every floor, the Wi-fi is free and printing boarding passes is available at no charge.

The rooms are small, but very efficient. Our room had a king-size bed with 6 pillows. There's a free-standing wardrobe, shelves and storage drawers. There's also a desk (with ample places to plug in your electronics) with a chair and a second chair. The best part? The windows actually open!

The bathroom is in keeping with the room--small and efficient. Granite counters, room to put your stuff, dual-flush toilet, generously-sized shower (no tub).

The whole hotel has a green focus. Recycling is emphasized. There's a cappuccino/latte machine on the second floor, available to guests all day.

The Jewel reminded me of some hotels I've stayed in in Europe. I will definitely stay here again the next time I'm in New York.

I booked this hotel through priceline as I was heading to NYC on a whim and needed a hotel for two nights. I booked everything the night before I left on a Friday and there was not much available for less than 300 a night in a central location. When I refreshed my search and this hotel came up and I booked it. I hoped that it would be clean and with a good location. Lucky for me this turned out to be an excellent location!!!! This hotel is right next to Rockafellar Plaza. Which has lots of places to eat, shop, lots of tourists, so it is safe even in the wee hours of the morning. As the Observation Deck for Top of the Rock is open late everyday of the week. It is walking distance to Time Square, The Museum of Modern Art, and Central Park. From stepping outside the hotel you can see St. Patricks Church. Which also happens to be located on 5th Avenue which has so many stores! It's also walking distance to the Empire State Building. More so the staff is amazing!!!! As soon as I arrived, which was earlier than check in which is 3pm. I arrived at 2:00pm I was given a complimentary room upgrade. I originally booked a room with just a queen bed which was going to be shared. I ended up with a a two bedroom, two bath room with a kitchenette. The room was amazing and comfortable, and very clean. The staff is also completely knowledgeable, I asked for directions and suggestions every morning. On the 2nd FL there is a Living Room with an amazing Coffee Machine that makes any type of coffee you like for FREE! Further you can use the two computers there and print for free. Since I went to NYC from one day to the next I had to use the computers and printer to print out discount vouchers I get from work. I was expecting to pay and was so pleased to see they printed right out free of charge! Further they have fresh water at every floor where they provide you a empty water bottle type container and you can bottle your own water. We did every morning and took the waters with us. There is also a gym. I honestly couldn't have been more pleased with my experience at this hotel. It made my trip more enjoyable and since I was here for such a short period of time, I was able to make the most of it thanks to its central location. Since I tried to walk as much as possible one night we were too tired to go searching for food at midnight on Sunday. We ordered to a restaurant that provides 24 room service to the hotel. The food was delicious and cheap. I paid 21.50 for that meal for two. All I had to do was go downstairs and pick it up in my pjs. I love the hotel, and the employees that help me find my way through the city. I will definitely return and tell everyone I know to stay here. I recommend it wholeheartedly!!!!
