This place is busy - and booked - for a reason, it's good. Not just good, but superb. My wife had eaten at the Little Owl on a previous trip to New York and made this a "must do" on our trip to NYC in April. Because it's so busy she got up in the middle of the night in order to book an on-line reservation for us a month before our trip. The place has only about 11-12 tables, so even though they keep 1 or 2 open for walk-ins, it's not a good bet to roll the dice as a walk-in.
The place is small and intimate, as one would expect from a great neighborhood restaurant in the West Village. We were lucky enough to be seated at the corner table by the windows which only added to the dinner. We started off with the recommended sliders as well as the asparagus risotto for appetizers. Absolutely wonderful. For dinner we shared the halibut and filet mignon - both perfectly done and very flavorful - accompanied by a perfect Malbec. Service was outstanding and was attentive without being overbearing. The combination of the dining room atmosphere, service, meal, table location and, of course, the company, made this one of our best meals ever.
Make a reservation early for this fantastic restaurant - and make sure to keep it! For before or after dinner drinks, try The Spotted Pig, about 5 blocks away (they also have some pretty solid appetizers). If you can't make it into Little Owl, try their other place, Market Table.
