We were looking to use/earn Marriott points while staying in NYC over Labor Day weekend. We've stayed at a few Marriott properties in the city before and decided to try this Courtyard based on positive reviews and reasonable rates. No complaints about the hotel itself. It has a breakfast and coffee bar that is open only in the morning rather than a full service bar and restaurant, and a takeout mart for (overpriced) water, soda, and candy, which is typical of the Courtyard brand. The rooms are clean and modern and a reasonable size for NYC, good water pressure in the shower, and surprisingly quiet. Staff friendly, checkin was quick, and we were given late checkout with no hesitation, which was nice so that we could freshen up before picking up our bags and heading home. Free wifi was also a nice touch. Though the hotel is on a quiet block across from a police station, it is directly around the corner from Madison Square Garden, and blocks from Port Authority, Penn Station, and Times Square. Very convenient if you wish to be near the bus and train stations, but also crowded and very touristy. I would hesitate to say the hotel is in Chelsea. If you are looking for restaurants or nightlife near the hotel, walk south and/or east into Chelsea or Flatiron.
