Description: Jay's Seafood Restaurant has been family owned and operated for 41 years. Specializing in fresh seafood, steaks and fine wine at reasonable prices. Our story is rich in history. During the period ranging into the late 1800's, Dayton was one of the leading areas in the nation for flour milling. One of these mills, located on the Miami Erie Canal, was known as the Joseph Kratochwill Dayton Corn and Grist Mill. This building was constructed in the 1850's. Ladies and Gentlemen, tonight you are dining in the former Dayton Corn and Grist Mill.. In 1882, James Jacob Ritty opened the Pony House Restaurant. He commissioned wood carvers from Barney and Smith Car Works to turn 5,400 pounds of Honduras Mahogany into a bar. The fruit of their labors is the bar you now see standing in Jay's. Join us seven nights a week for a great dining experience

Nice atmosphere, not the chain restaurant type. Very old and ornate but you can be comfortable in jeans or suit and tie. Staff very friendly and service excellent. They specialize in seafood and those in my group that had this said it was wonderful. I had the filet and it was perfect and tasted great. You're not going to get out of here for less than $50/person if you don't have drinks. If you do want adult beverages, then count on the $75/person and maybe more. So this is a very pricey night out but worth it once in awhile.

Jay's has been around for many years. I went to lunch there with a client and her financial advisor. I had caesar salad with salmon and it was very good- I had blue cheese dressing rather than the caesar dressing. The other two at my table had the bourbon salmon with horse radish mash potatoes. I have had that dish before at dinner at Jay's and it is delicious, but felt like another dish for lunch. At dinner, they have a very extensive wine list and a wide variety of seafood choices. It was very crowded today for holiday lunches.

We had dinner at Jay's on a Sunday evening. I had wanted to try this place as it seemed to offer an ambience missing at the chain restaurants. I read mixed reviews on this site but decided to take a chance and go anyway. There were four of us and we were very satisfied with our experience. We had a well informed waiter take care of us and he served the food promptly and at the right temperature. I had the bourbon salmon and it was very good. My friend had the puff pastry salmon and loved it. We also had drinks before dinner and they were adult potency and good size. The dining room had a lovely décor featuring two bars that featured lots of dark wood. The lighting was low and it felt very private even though the room was large. It was a unique experience that I will remember.

My wife and I went here for a date night. The atmosphere was enjoyable. The decor and building feels a little dated, but it wasn't offsetting. Lighting was dimmed which created a private and romantic vibe. We ordered a mussels appetizer which was good. I ordered one of the free fish options (don't recall which) and my wife ordered shrimp. The fresh fish was amazing. It was a little more expensive than standard menu items, but very good. My wife's dish was good, but nothing exciting. She ordered a bottle of wine and I just had soda. In total our bill came out to a little over $110 including tip.
