“An average Dayton bar”

I've been to the Century Bar twice. The first time I went I was somewhat unimpressed. Arrived early on a Thursday and was the only person in the place. I was barely greeted by the bartender. I asked him to make me a unique Bourbon cocktail and was promptly served an Old Fashioned. Not sure what is unique about an Old Fashioned since it's one of the most recognizable whiskey cocktails but that's what I got. So, perhaps don't expect much originality here.

My second experience was better. Friendly bartender, competent service, and a respectable Manhattan that was small for the price I paid but well poured.

I would meet someone here if they insisted on going but wouldn't go out of my way to visit again.

As a note, they do have a respectable Bourbon selection but, also as a note for those from out of town, don't expect anything especially unique. The State of Ohio controls brand distribution so whatever the Century Bar has access to is the same product that every other bar in Ohio has access to as well.

Wow... just wow. My husband has been bugging me about Century Bar since we've moved to Dayton, and I am so glad we visited this past weekend. As soon as you step into the bar, you feel almost transported to what I can imagine a 1940's Chicago bourbon bar would resemble. Heavy wood-working and beautiful stained glass accents the darkly-lit, intimate spot. Small tables line the massive bar to complete an authentic bourbon experience. This is not your average bar- be prepared to know what to order and have it prepared with precision. Both the Manhattan and Old Fashioned were some of the best we've ever tasted- right up there with drinks in Chicago and New York City. The bartenders work beyond tending bar- they are drink artists. We had a great time, and will most definitely be back.

Century Bar has transformed itself into a Bourbon House of great distinction. The staff is passionate about bourbon and will teach you everything you've ever wanted to know with openness and no BS attached. They want you to love bourbon as much as they do. The blind tastings are fabulous and while they are a touch expensive and last all evening, you'll be so glad you went. You learn a lot. The food is great as they collaborate with other Dayton restaurants and you need the food to make it through the bourbon without getting too tipsy :)

The bar itself and the ceiling/glass above it are beautiful. One of the oldest in Dayton if not the oldest. Go check them out!

This place is a dive , the Bartenders are rude , and If you wanna be REALLY grossed out .. Look at the Restroom.. I am a 40 Year Veteran of bouncing around Dayton Bars.. And I don't mind a dive ... But I do mind the smell of Urine that comes from the 1938 restroom plumbings ..Which is why the Locals call it the Scent Urinny Bar ..
