I stayed at the Sheraton Society Hill for a 2 night business meeting. As far as a business hotel, it was good - would I recommend it for a vacation or a weekend getaway, probably not. From the outside, it looks like a decent property and the lobby was very impressive too. The bellman were very friendly and the front desk staff was courteous, nice and tried to help. As an SPG Platinum member, there was no upgrade and they seemed like they weren't sure what to do with an SPG member but they could have been new, or training. There were only 2 people at the desk and a long line of guests trying to check in or out. I'd say we arrived right around lunch time to check-in so I was surprised they didn't have more people working.
The Location was great! Its located in a very cool, hip part of town. We were able to walk up to Chestnut Street and have dinner at Amada, and we had lunch in that area too. And in the evening we also walked down 2nd to South were we found lots of great shops and restaurants in this area. Its an easy cab ride to anywhere in the city.
The lobby has a small coffee type cafe with Starbucks coffee, and you can order limited breakfast items or lunch throughout the afternoon. The lobby is very open, with high ceilings and sky lights so plenty of natural light. There are the several large high top tables with electrical outlets for guests to work, as well as plenty of lounge type seating with club chairs and couches. The business center is also in this area. I was somewhat dismayed that you had to pay for internet service when the Hyatt at Penn's Landing across the street offers it complimentary. One of my colleagues actually walked over there to work.
Valet parking was expensive, and if you can find parking on the street I would recommend that or a local parking garage might be cheaper. But if you don't need a car, then I would definitely suggest using a taxi service. It was much more convenient and probably cheaper in the long run to get to all the places we needed to go.
The hotel is under a MAJOR renovation so many, many areas were under construction. I will give the property kudos for trying to upgrade its image with new flooring, paint, upgrade rooms and bathrooms but it is loud during the day if you are near any of the construction, and there is lots of new paint smells, etc.
My room was an average size, with two double beds, nice size flat screen TV and work desk. Ample closet space and a decent size bathroom. I was given club access, but don't think I was on a specific club floor and with all the construction it was hard to find my room much less the Club Room, so I never used those amenities. Beware, the walls are paper thin!!! I thought the guy next to me was sharing my room with me. In fact, I looked around to see if there was a hole in the wall, if my window was open, etc. I could literally here ALL of his phone conversations - thank god I didn't hear anything else. You could also hear everything in the hallway, so if you need quiet to sleep - this may not be the property for you. I even sleep with a sound machine to block out the noise and it was still bad.
I did not visit the hotel restaurant and bar, but I reviewed the menu and it looked very good. The atmosphere inside both seemed very nice and upscale for other Sheraton properties that I've visited. Lots of flat screen TVs in the bar if you wanted to catch a game and each night there seemed to be a lot of people hanging out around the bar.
Overall, I might visit again after they are finished with construction and if the price was right. But the property is what I'm used too because I travel so much for work and I've told friends to just remember they aren't staying at the JW Marriott or a Ritz Carlton, so if those are your tastes then you would be disappointed. If you want an easy access hotel, within walking distance and cab rides of attractions, shopping, restaurants, bars, etc and don't care much about where you lay your head at night then it would be good.
I'm not sure there is a "good" room at this property but that may be only due to ALL t...
