I live in Pensacola, FL and have never seen the "real ocean" even though I go to Pensacola Beach at least once a month. So, on a visit to see family, I decided to finally dip my toes in the ocean. The first thing that got me was how flat the sand was, the second was how rocky it got about 15 yards in. Wear your flip flops until you get almost to the water. For me, it was odd to see a beach that didn't have soft, sugar white sand (the sand was a darker beige) and clear green water. It wasn't a bad beach...not dirty or anything, just not like the Gulf... I am just biased.
