On Sunday March 26, 2006 I walked the new Trial from Sunset Beach on the Pacific Ocean to the newly (almost) reconstructed Fort Clatsop. It is a 6 and one half mile trip which I was able to do in two and one half hours. It is well worth all the effort. The trails are well marked with wooden bridges built over rivers and streams. The woods were alive with wild birds, flowering pink Salmon Berry bushes and white trillum. I was lucky as it did not rain, and oh what a wonderful experience. There are sections that are rather surreal, as you walk along the borders of a Gulf course and a cattle ranch with black cattle staring at you close enough to touch. Soon, I came upon a Presbyterian Church, Grey Memorail, with parishoners going to Sunday services with yellow daffodils all in bloom in front. Ducks and ravens greetd me, and I knew that someday, the second growth forest would look like the Ancient forest that Lewis, Clark,Scagawea and Charbonneau saw. I recommend it to all. I have gout, and I felt it the next day, but I figured, if not now, then never. What a wonderful experience! I am proud of our legislators and all who helped make this dream a reality. Go and see it. You will love it. Gabe Sheridan, Portland, Oregon
