Very pleasant and relaxing. Breakfast was sufficient with fruit, yogurt, cereal, pastries, waffles and bagels. Afternoon wine tasting with cheese and crackers was quite enjoyable. Nice paved walking trail to downtown and restaurants. Rooms were new, clean, and each faced the Columbia River with a wall of windows. Hotel was nice enough to supply a set of binoculars, this was a nice touch.

My husband and I stayed 1 night at the Cannery Pier at the end of June and loved it!!! We got an early check-in on the 4th floor - opened the door and said WOW! The bathroom has small french doors that you enter in, the toilet in a separate area (with a phone next to it), 2 mirrors with great lighting. - 1 mirror was over the sink and another with a vanity area and bench to sit on if you'd like. The stand up shower was great with one of those extra large shower heads. The claw foot tub was wonderful and huge- all looking over the Columbia River. They also offer the hotel sized Crabtree and Evelyn products- shampoo, conditioner, lotion and body wash. The floor was tile and we enjoyed the bath robes as well. You go outside of the bathroom and there is a bar area with a sink, coffee maker and underneath, a small fridge and microwave. The T.V. area has 2 huge deep drawers and an area to hang up clothes. There was a table and chairs right next to the gas fire place, king sized bed that was VERY comfortable, couch and table and a padded seating area over looking the river with Bushnell (sp?) binoculars. All rooms are river front and we enjoyed the small deck off of the room! They had great color combinations and black out roman shades on all of the windows. We very much enjoyed the wine reception that evening. (It was from 5-6 pm unlike the internet saying 5- 7 pm). Regardless, they served complimentary red and white wine, salmon lox on bread with butter and pepperjack cheese squares and crackers.- All very good!!! On the second floor they have complimentary internet access which is great, a T.V. area and wonderful fishing pictures to look out throughout the whole hotel. The next morning my husband went in the hot tub and we both went in the sauna- all giving a side view to the river. My only minor complaints would be I got the last towel for the sauna and the water jug was empty which would have been nice for anyone getting out of the sauna, spa or working out. Although I did not use the gym, it had 3 cardio machines some hand weights and an exercise ball and T.V. as I recall. The spa area was nice and looked relaxing, but unfortunately this time we didn't get a chance to use. We then enjoyed the continental breakfast which consisted of this: coffee, cardomon (sp?) bread, bagels and cream cheese, yogurt, cold cereals, granola bars, make your own belgian waffles, and fresh fruit including raspberries, strawberries, cantaloupe and watermelon. The breakfast was from 6-9am. They also had 4 bicycles you could use and there is a wonderful paved river walk right outside the hotel. I thought this was a great idea!!! We will definately go back and stay again and plan to get our parents gift certificates there as well!!!

“WOW”

I had to write a review on this lovely hotel. I got onto trip advisor and to my amazement saw some bad reviews. First of all The hotel is worth the extra $20 dollars. The wine reception is wonderful and the continental breakfast in the morning is great.

The front desk staff is great the rooms are great. You are 600 feet out into the water there wont be any experience like this in town. I suggest everyone needs to try it for themselves and dont let the very few people that are not happy in life ruin this great experience.

We celebrated our anniversary there and it was great. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to the coast.

Buyer beware! This hotel lists one rate on its website but upon arrival, the rate increases $20 a night. On our first stay, I was suspicious of the price but no longer had my confirmation. On our recent stay, I did have the confirmation. I was charged their new enhanced rate for one night of the three-night stay. I am still in conversation wtih them about the rate increase. It's a paltry amount of money but a hotel should stick by the rates that a person has used when the reservation is confirmed.

The concept of a hotel out over the water in place of the cannery that was there held lots of promise. The outside of the hotel looks like it could have been one of the wharf side structures that at one time lined the shores of the Columbia River in Astoria; but once inside all the promise evaporated. The service was abysmal. The desk was run by several women who were more interested in other things than running a hotel. There were baggage carts in the lobby but not once was any assistance offered to move our luggage from the car to the room. We had booked a suite but decided against the additional costs because the typical rooms were much better and did not justify the additional $100/night. The lighting in the room was awful especailly in the bathroom. The rooms were poorly soundproofed especially from above. Great concept - poor execution.
As an aside we visited the Hotel Elliot in downtown Astoria. WOW what a hotel. the 1920'2 building was completely rebuilr with all the charm of the 20's but with all new well designed materials. The Presidents suite is masterfully dome with a complete kitchen and dining room and the most sophisticated interior design I've seen in a hotel. The front desk staff was eager and insighful. Should have stayed there.
