“raising the bar in ASTORIA”

Astoria Coffee House

23 Apr 2008

you drive thru town and there is many empty store fronts , all of a sudden, there's a big neon cup and green trees like an oasis . It's this hopin' joint full of people , great smells , music . It's a slice of the big city ! The 5 of us piled out of the car and each of us got to relax and eat a bunch of different stuff ,read the sunday times and get fueled up before back to seattle . They were super friendly and told us to go to the " astor colunm " before leaving .

I've stopped by the coffee house several times for coffee and always enjoyed the ambiance. I did try a panini last fall and vowed to never order it again. Then, went for lunch last week with a friend. We ordered two Greek salads and one bowl of soup. We received one plate of salad and told it equals two orders and always served on one plate. I asked for two small plates and two forks since we'd rather not eat from the same plate.

The soup was tepid and not eatable and should have sent to back but already had to ask for fresh pita bread, plates, and forks. It was an expensive meal - $24 for a medium-sized Greek salad, pita bread, and two drinks. If staff can work on their attitude, perhaps I will try the Greek salad again some day since the hummus was very good. I'll just ask my companion to order separately so we get our own plate of food!

“Bad food with an attitude”

Astoria Coffee House

1 Mar 2008

I was dissappointed and embarrassed that I suggested this spot for lunch with my mother-in-law, who treated. I have had good coffee here before but had never tried it for lunch. The barista who takes your order, was not very accomodating or informed when I asked if I could get a cup of the soup of the day, she answered we only have a bowl. I was hoping to get a small cup for my 15 month old. Oh well, I ordered the bowl and both my guest and I ordered the Greek Salad from the specail board. When it arrived, it was on one plate for us to share off of, the wrong soup arrived next, when I told the server that we had order the potato leek soup, he seemed very put out. I also noted at this time that we had ordered two salads and that is when we were told that the one plate sitting in front of us was two orders. (We were also charged for two salads) But one plate, glad it wasn't a business lunch with a stranger!! The portion was that of one. It was not filling. The pitas where stale, so I had to ask if there were any softer pitas avaiable. Anyways when the potato soup arrived, it was luke warm and not a color of soup I had seen before. I did not serve this to my child! I think they may heat soup to order. I didn't want to be difficult, so I didn't say anything. We were never asked if everything was ok. It was fairly busy, but I was just so very dissappointed with the whole experience. It is a fun atmosphere with the big wall mirror and decor. The ambience is cozy, the staff just needs to be a bit happier about what they do for a living!! We went elsewhere to have a delightful dessert on the waterfront.

“Great coffee and great lunch”

Astoria Coffee House

7 May 2007

Come in for the coffee, stick around for the food.

Some of the best coffee available in Astoria! This place rivals the great independent coffee shops I'm used to in Seattle.

We came back to try out the lunch, and the soups and salads were great. We split a salmon burger which, despite the prefab patty, tasted delish!
