My family and I were here back in July. This place is the best. We had no cell phone service, no internet, but that worked for me. The room and bathroom were big, clean and comfortable. The room had a TV with cable and telephone but no microwave or refrigerator but wasn't high priority anyway. All in all very nice for a state run park and hotel. The restaurant is allright and very reasonable. The mountain views everywhere around you are beautiful. Interesting plants and flowers. Lots of places to hike and walk. We were outside alot even in evenings as they have a nice covered porch area with table and chairs overlook the pool area and the mountains. The weather was great. It was actually cool in upper 50's in evening and 80's daytime but alot less humidity. Be sure to go into town to the Ft. Davis Historical Site which is very interesting. Go see McDonald Observatory day tour and attend the "Star Party" at night. Its kind of expensive but well worth it and its just one time opportunity. Our kids enjoyed it. I forgot how beautiful the night sky is and how many stars there are at night. You can also see the "milky way" . Another small plus is the hotel office is manned 24hours but locked at 11pm. They have a small gift shop and have items to sell incase you need something for illness or other personal items.I definitely want to come back here sometime soon.

Just got back from the "renovated" Indian Lodge for quick overnight stay that cost $118.00 nite. . Clerk stated to us we would love the room. It was a suite in the very far back in the original bldg. It was great until I thought someone was trying to break in and in reality--people above us were just walking around in their room. According to front desk, all the rooms that have a room above it in the old section, only have 2 inches between the ceiling in lower level to floor in upper level. You hear everything. She stated during renovations, because bldg is historic, engineers couldn't "fix the noise thing". Bed- full size only, uncomfortable. Room a/c extremely noisy and filter--filthy! Staff was nice and then proceeeded to give me "cheat sheet" of where to stay for future visits. Also found out from office, that beds in new section are newer and more confortable. Unfriendly staff for bkfst and dinner in restaurant on site. Area is just beautiful which is the drawing card to stay here.

After a full day of driving from Austin, we were thrilled to find ourselves at the Indian Lodge. Our kids had a great time investigating the grounds and the rooms were spacious and clean. It was a perfect place to rest up before heading out to the McDonald Observatory. It was our first stop of about 8 hotels on this vacation and it's so far been the most unique!

“Reliving Wonderful Memories at Indian Lodge”

Indian Lodge

3 Aug 2007

WOW! Spent two nights here with two sons (7 and 4) and elderly parents (70s). I hadn't been here in over 20 years - it's incredible! The place was renovated over a year ago - it is wonderful. My boys said, "this is like a cool castle" - the building is a pueblo style lodge, with lots of stairs (beware if you are mobility challenged) and interesting nooks. Parents had a king room - plenty spacious. Boys and I had a suite - lots of room - great sitting area for the boys to play and all of us visit and play games. Everything was in great condition and working order - very clean.

The pool is a little cold, but you can warm up to it pretty quickly.

The Black Bear restaurant is amazing! Very good food and very reasonably priced - with great portions. Beware of the pancakes - huge and tasty!

There is no internet service, but hey, we were on vacation.

There are mountains to climb, grounds to explore, shade to chill out in and sights to see in the area.

I couldn't have asked for a better experience - all I had hoped for and more in reliving some great childhood memories with my sons. I just hope the secret of how great this place is doesn't get out too far and get it overrun!

“Loved it!”

The Indian Lodge was wonderful! One of the best hotels I have ever stayed at--and I have traveled more than many folks. All it needed was fluffy bathrobes and high-end soaps/shampoos and I would have thought I was in a 5-star hotel! It's hard to believe it was in a State Park. The rooms were perfect--fresh cookies and a note by the bed when we checked in; the views were breath-taking; the hotel was tastefully decorated to match the hotel's history and location; the rooms were clean and fresh! The restuarant was very reasonably priced and the food was adequate. Overall it was unbelieveable for the price and the fact that it is a small state park location.
