This hotel was built in the 1920s. Reopened in 1978. Definitely has that old world charm. It is family owned and managed by Don Parkinson, who is gem of an employee. Ready to help with dinner reservations, where to sight see, etc.

The building has lots of places to sit and relax; several porches, a 2nd story balcony, pool area, and two lovely sitting rooms(one with a fire in the fireplace every evening.)

Tea and coffee are ready in the lobby every morning.

Eat at the Drug store across the street. Very good food and exceptionally nice wait staff.

Fort Davis is an interesting place to visit. It has the fort, which was occupied by the Buffalo Soldiers and there is the McDonald Observatory. With Fort Davis' elevation, it is a great get away for those who live in a hot climate.

The price is also a bargain. The night before we arrived, we stayed in a dump Super 8 in Fort Stockton for the same price as a night at the Limpia. Should have kept driving instead of stopping in Fort Stockton.

Enjoy!

We stayed at the Hotel Limpia on our last night of a driving tour of West Texas and the Big Bend and really enjoyed our stay. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. When we arrived early at 12:30, the woman at the front desk walked upstairs to see if our room was ready. It was not, but she said that it would be ready in about 20 minutes. We took a walk around town and when we returned it was ready. The room was a basic room with a queen bed. The bathroom was very large with beautiful wood floors. Keep in mind that this is an old hotel, so the floors are a bit creaky and the rooms can be a bit musty. The room did not have an individual control for the air conditioning, but there was a ceiling fan. The room had a very small television, but no telephone, which seems to be common with the hotels in this area. Ft. Davis is a cute little town and this hotel is only a 20 minute drive from the McDonald Observatory.

“What a trip!”

The Hotel Limpia

Hotel Limpia is a treat for family stays. It's an historic building with many artifacts to see. It has a quaint garden, gift store and small dining room - we didn't eat there. The hotel room was huge! The beds were comfortable and everything is decorated with Victorian adornments. There's a grassy area for the kids to play croquet and a fenced in pool that we didn't get to use.

It's a perfect place to stay while in Fort Davis - close to the beautiful cliffs and drive through the canyons/mountains. It was about 20 minute drive to the top where the observatory is located and you can partake in a star party.

I'll definitely stay there again when we return.

My husband and I stayed at another hotel for two nights and due to the hotel being booked we had to book a night at the Limpia Hotel. They were booked too, but offered a Guest House (they have about 4 of them in town). This one called Dr. Jones House, a 1903 house. Cute house, remodeled, nice surroundings. We got the biggest suite, with large screened porch, two queen size beds and TV in our room, large bathroom, living room with TV, A/C, wet bar with small fridge, microwave, small laundry room. We checked in at 4PM . Liked the place, peaceful, quiet. Nicely decorated cottage style. House smelled like an old house, carpet showed its wear and tear, with stains. Under the beds seemed like have never seen a vacuum, even found candy under one of the beds. Someone left a bottle of Tylenol in the night table drawer ( a no-no if you have small children!!) I checked everything else and looked fine. I had brought a can of bug spray, which was recommended by another reviewer. But did not see any bugs dead or alive. So never bothered to spray. We left for dinner and a walk and came back later in the night. Went to bed and my husband woke up to go to the bathroom around 10:30PM and decided to turn on the light. To his surprise there was a SCORPION !!! right in front of the toilet and got agitated by the light in the bathroom !!! He freaked out, killed the critter. He woke me up and told me to get ready that we are leaving immediately, he is not spending a night here. What if there are more and they crawl up your bed or are already in the room ? Definitely cannot sleep like that. We were 9 hours away from home and were supposed to leave the next day back home. So we packed out stuff in 5 minutes!! LEFT and turned in our keys at the front desk of the Hotel. We are very allergic people and a scorpion bite could be fatal to any of us!!!!
All hotels in the area were full, so we left and drove all night to get home. Will not stay at Hotel Limpia ever again!!!! They said, Oh, you are in Texas. Yeah right, I have lived in Texas over 30 years and never had any problems with bugs. I love animals, but not scorpions in my bed and rooms.

“That old time charm that we've al forgotten”

The Hotel Limpia

My wife and I frequent the Alpine/Marfa/Ft. Davis area about twice a year. Usually we stay in the Paisano or in Alpine, but this time, we decided to see what Fort Davis had to offer.

We decided to give the Hotel Limpia a try.

We booked two nights, and were told they were so filled up that all they had was a suite at the Trueheart house. We weren't sure what this was, but we took it.

We arrived in Ft. Davis and met with the super friendly staff. One gentleman seemed to know everyone in town and where to go and where to do stuff! It was great. We also met the cat, Tuxedo.

The hotel is so reminiscent of what you'd expect to see back in the 20's. They have unfinished puzzles in rooms, and screened in porches where you can sit and watch the evening arrive, or play a game with the family (games provided by the hotel!) We moseyed through the hotel, while people sat alone or in small groups in the very antique setting. Some were using the WiFi with their notebooks, some were playing game, some were sitting on the rocking chairs on the front porch, reading. The night air was nice, and a pleasant breeze blew through the hotel.

Now onto our room.
It was a suite in the Trueheart house, which is a short drive away from the hotel, and by itself on a quiet little road.

Beautiful doesn't cut it. This room was spectacular. 11 foot ceilings, antique furniture. It was like staying in a museum. The bath was recently redone, and the fireplaces worked. There are two other rooms in the Trueheart house, but we never heard a peep from the other guests. That first night was blissful. We sat out on the front porch, looking at the stars while rocking away until the wee hours.

The next night?
Um. Yeah.
The next night, as we were walking in, we saw the sign in book, we looked to see if we might know the other guests. One guest complained about "small critters" in her room. We had no idea what she was talking about as we had had no issues.

We entered into our room and after a few minutes my wife called me into the front room to kill a quite sizable spider -- probably about the size of a quarter, with a big red body. I squashed it.
Then, a few minutes later, when we were pulling out the sleeper sofa for our daughter to sleep on, another one of those large spiders jumped up and scurried across the couch. My wife freaked out, so did my daughter.

So we decided to all sleep in the same room, my daughter in a chair, while my wife and I slept in the bed. I dragged a chair (that we'd been sitting in all night) into the room. My wife flipped it over to check for spiders, and another spider crept up and crawled over the chair. I squashed this one too. By now we were all pretty creeped out. I went and checked the sign in book, and apparently, this is a pretty normal thing. So I went through the room, and found 6 more of these spiders lurking about. Some in the restroom, some in the front room, and one in the bedroom.
Now, my wife and daughter would not sleep alone, so we all had to share one bed, because they were too scared to sleep alone. So was I!! It was pretty hard to sleep that night, hoping to not get bitten or crawled upon.
Let me tell you, the people of the hotel were great, everyone was friendly, the room was beyond comparison, the only problem we had were the spiders. (Check the corners for spiders on the ceiling)

My recommendation? Bring a can of Raid with you, and spray the room heavily before you go into it and let it set for a while, then go visit Fort Davis, it's a GREAT little town. Once you are done, head back to the hotel, and get rid of all the dead spiders.
