Stayed at the HGI, Inner Harbor for 5 days the end of July. Totally agree with previous review...great location and view...it's unfortunate the view will be obstructed when the Four Seasons is completed.
The rooms are small but comfortable and they are still in good shape since the hotel has only been open for a year. We booked a Bed and Breakfast room which came with a hot breakfast buffet each morning. Omelets/eggs/pancakes cooked to order, juice, coffee, pastries, etc., in short, a great breakfast to start off the day.
However, the front desk employees leave a lot to be desired. The clerk greeted us with indifference on check in. I had requested a non smoking king room on a lower floor. When we arrived, after driving all day from RI, we were sent to a third floor room that had a distinct odor of smoke. We called the front desk and were told to come down to get the key for a different room. The explanation was the third floor had just been converted to smoking or some nonsense like that. We ended up in a room on the 12th floor which worked out well because the view was great. However, they have beds that can be adjusted on each side for firmness and my husband's side couldn't be adjusted...we didn't realize this until the next morning when my husband woke up with a terrible backache. When we looked at the mattress his side was pumped up and my side was deflated. He tried to adjust it but it didn't work. So, back again to the front desk..this time I wasn't wasting time with the clerks...I asked for the manager on duty. I told her that we were wasting valuable vacation time dealing with these problems and we weren't happy so far. She was very apologetic, comped one nights stay and offered us a larger room if the bed couldn't be fixed by the engineering staff. We happened to come back to the room while they were looking at the bed trying to figure out how to adjust the overly inflated side...well, my husband actually figured it out after looking at the mechanism.
Thanks to Alex, one of the managers, she was both polite and responsive to our needs.
Loved Baltimore Inner Harbor area..lots to see and do. HGI is a good deal for the area but the staff needs some instruction on providing good customer service.
