We were in town for the weekend for a music festival in Mount Vernon. After reading a bunch of horror stories of hotels and motels in that area, we opted for this well reviewed hotel in Fells Point (about $10 cabfare away).
We had the chance to explore the Inner Harbor and some other neighborhoods while we were in town and we would say Fells Point is the best place to stay. You have restaurants, bars, etc. in a nice cobblestone street setting right on the water and a very easy 10 minute stroll into the Inner Harbor. 15 minute walk to convention center.
The bars and restaurants in Fells Point offer a good mix of tourist and local folk whereas the Inner Harbor is more crowded and mostly with tourists.
The only thing to watch with this particular hotel is the hidden $9.95/night charge. This "destination fee" gets you internet access, US phone calls, and some other stuff for a flat rate of $9.95/night. They advertise it on flyers in the room as though it's an optional package but it's not.
While it may be a good deal for some, we didn't need any of it and disputed the charges on check-out. The clerk explained to us it's not an optional charge and it's applied to all their rooms. I told him we didn't use any of those facilities and that I thought it was misleading to hide $10 of the nightly room rate in fine print.
The clerk ended up waiving the charges for us but, although extremely polite, he made it seem like he was doing us a big favour so don't count on this.
Everything else with the place was fine. Check-in was fast (under a minute). The room was comfortable. Housekeeping was thorough. Staff were polite and helpful. Didn't use room service.
Would I stay here again? Maybe. I'd look around first though for somewhere a bit more honest.
