We spent five days there under a Johns Hopkins package. I've stayed many places, from value motels to four diamond properties, and this is one of the best trained group of personnel I've encountered. They could not have been more friendly or helpful, from shuttle driver, to front desk, to valet parking, to general help. It's easy to overlook a shortcoming or two when everyone is working so hard to make your stay a good one.

The location is superb, right on a great waterfront with numerous really good restaurants, art galleries, and shops. There are also a lot of condos in the area, so the whole downtown is alive at night. There are lots of areas to walk.

The hotel room we had was on the ground floor, overlooking a little alleyway garden where someone had even planted herbs. There were 3 chairs and a desk, in addition to a small fridge, two beds, and several tables, but the room was not at all cramped. The only downside to the room was that for some reason, between about 11:30 p.m. and 1:30 a.m., there always seemed to be doors slamming -- was never able to figure out who or why.

I was never able to get a good internet connection in the room (it may have been my browser settings), but I was able to use the computer in the lobby.

A complimentary breakfast buffet in the tearoom was good and a nice way to start the morning.

There were a few housekeeping issues, but they didn't really distract from the overall experience, and the hotel seemed genuinely interested in feedback.

To bottom line, it was an attractive, cozy, very enjoyable place to stay.

We were in town for the weekend for a music festival in Mount Vernon. After reading a bunch of horror stories of hotels and motels in that area, we opted for this well reviewed hotel in Fells Point (about $10 cabfare away).

We had the chance to explore the Inner Harbor and some other neighborhoods while we were in town and we would say Fells Point is the best place to stay. You have restaurants, bars, etc. in a nice cobblestone street setting right on the water and a very easy 10 minute stroll into the Inner Harbor. 15 minute walk to convention center.

The bars and restaurants in Fells Point offer a good mix of tourist and local folk whereas the Inner Harbor is more crowded and mostly with tourists.

The only thing to watch with this particular hotel is the hidden $9.95/night charge. This "destination fee" gets you internet access, US phone calls, and some other stuff for a flat rate of $9.95/night. They advertise it on flyers in the room as though it's an optional package but it's not.

While it may be a good deal for some, we didn't need any of it and disputed the charges on check-out. The clerk explained to us it's not an optional charge and it's applied to all their rooms. I told him we didn't use any of those facilities and that I thought it was misleading to hide $10 of the nightly room rate in fine print.

The clerk ended up waiving the charges for us but, although extremely polite, he made it seem like he was doing us a big favour so don't count on this.

Everything else with the place was fine. Check-in was fast (under a minute). The room was comfortable. Housekeeping was thorough. Staff were polite and helpful. Didn't use room service.

Would I stay here again? Maybe. I'd look around first though for somewhere a bit more honest.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a weekend get-a-way. We thought everything was great. The hotel's service specialist was extremely helpful. Our hotel package was great and reasonably priced for what we recieved. We enjoyed the hotel's cozy enviornment. It is similar to the enviorment of a bed and breakfast with the privacy of a hotel. The best of all is the location of the hotel. It is right across the street from shops, bars and the water taxi that takes you to all of the other ports on the bay.

“Very Nice Inn”

Admiral Fell Inn

13 Jul 2008

Hotel was in a great location in Fells Point with the water taxi directly across the street from the Inn.

Room was very nice and the breakfast was good.

They also have shuttle service to their sister hotel for free, but add an additional $9.95 per day to your bill whether you use the service or not. So save the money on the water taxi and use the shuttle service.

I would recommend this Inn. We loved it and also Fells Point bistro's.

“Great Potential”

I had always wanted to go into Baltimore for the Independence Day fireworks at the Inner Harbor. So this year we finally did it! And I'd always wanted to stay at an historical place. So we chose the Admiral Fell, at the end of Broadway in the heart of Fells Point. The setting is quaint, if a bit shabby. There are some upscale shops, but more run-down bars and vacant storefronts. The Inn is in a similar state. The registration process should have given me a clue. While I could look up availability on-line, I had to call to actually make the reservation. The staff was very attentive and professional, and the room was adequate, but there were little things that just didn't add up. There was an overpowering potpourri smell in the lobby. And some of the upholstery was visibly dirty. The room was adequate, nice furnishings, one bedspread had a tear, there was a glass shelf in the bathroom that seemed loose and was slanted enough to allow things to slide off, one table lamp was not working, and half the length of the sheets were tucked under the end of the mattress. But the thing that bothered me most was the dirty windows(inside & out)! And just outside, the peeling paint! The other down-tick was that I had signed up on the "Harbor Magic" website for the 4 p.m. Afternoon Tea and the 5 p.m. Ghost Tour, only to find out upon arrival that both had been canceled because of the holiday. They had my email address, they could have had the courtesy to contact me and let me know. While there was no mention of a complimentary breakfast, we imagined that they must have some provision, and I asked at the desk what they could recommend. The night clerk said there was a breakfast buffet that was regularly $11, but that we should ask about their voucher in the morning. What we discovered the next morning was that the voucher was only included in certain packages, and our stay did not qualify. Oh, and the buffet was really $11.95. We asked for alternatives, and they only offered one, a diner across the square, but we found it was way too crowded. We cut our losses & headed out of the city for a popular chain restaurant down the road. As for parking, we took the cheap route: street-side metered parking was $1/hour 10 a.m. -8 p.m. and free overnight. Alternatives were a nice garage 3 blocks away for about $15 overnight, or valet service from the Inn at $30 for 24 hrs.
