We stayed at the White Marsh Hampton Inn for 3 nights beginning on Sept. 20th, 2007. Pros: The bedding was very soft, very close to tonnes of restaurants, great shopping ("The Avenue" with lots of yuppie shops like Pier One, Borders, terrific restautants), breakfast staff were warm and earnest. Room had additional cable channels, such as HGTV.

Cons: The hotel is old, worn carpets in the hallways, and the room amneties seem dated. Not that convenient to downtown Baltimore (about 30 minutes at a minimum), plus you have to pay a $2 toll each way, which got a bit tiring after the tenth time. Pool closed after Labour Day (not advertised). Room lacked fridge & microwave.

All in all, it was OK, but we stayed at the H.I in Frederick.Ft. Detrick one night which was superior (see review). For my money ($150 / night) I would probably stay at one of the BWI airports if visiting Baltimore, since the price was cheaper and it was closer to Baltimore.

The breakfast ladies really are lovely though.

We stayed here for three nights in August. We were given a room on the second floor. A corner room across from the stairs. Because of that our room was larger than the standard room. The beds were extremely comfortable, the room was clean. It was a bit noisey because we faced the interstate. Maybe if you requested a room in the front you wouldn't hear road noise. The pool was okay.
The free breakfast was good. Plenty of choices. The area around the hotel had plenty of restaurants and shopping. Overall a nice, safe place to stay outside the hustle and bustle of Baltimore.

“Great Hotel - Convenient to Canden Yards”

We booked this hotel because we were in town for the Red Sox. This place was about a 25 minute drive to Camden Yards. It is easy to get to the highway from this hotel and there is a $2.00 toll on your way to Camden. The hotel staff were the friendliest group of people I have ever met while staying at a hotel. The breakfast ladies were fantastic. There was a very nice complimentary breakfast every morning. The rooms were a bit small but we didn't spend a whole lot of time there. My sister had an end room and they were considerably bigger than the room I had. The pool was small but the kids enjoyed it. The exercise room is adequate. I also used the computer and internet access was quick and easy. The do have complimentary Internet access codes if you have a laptop. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel and highly recommend it. Across the street is a big mall with several restaurants. The hotel runs a complimentary shuttle but we didn't have the time for it. It was nice to get out of downtown Baltimore and back to this hotel in Whitemarsh. The inner harbor is nice but crowded and expensive to eat at a decent restaurant. There are so many choices around this hotel in Whitemarsh. Everytime we asked for directions around Camden Yards, we were to told that we would be safe if we stayed around this area, street, etc. After about the sixth time with that comment, it made us wonder what the area was like and why each person commented on safety. It didn't feel unsafe but it was nice to get back to the Hampton Inn. It was relaxing, and there were lots of options to do other things beside stay in one area because of safety concerns. This hotel is a gem and we would stay here again if we have the need for a hotel in Baltimore.

“Quiet hotel outside Baltimore”

This is a nice hotel that is about a half hour away from the Baltimore attractions. We are a family of four and felt the room was a little too small. If you are a large group (over 3 people) stay in the Residence Inn. It is about two minutes from the Hampton Inn and much nicer. Unfortunately, the NY Yankees were in town and all of the hotels were sold out, so we couldn't switch. The bathroom had very little space to keep your toiletries. Aside from that the beds were very comfortable and the staff were very accommodating. There was complimentary breakfast every morning which consisted of cereal, bagels, toast, donuts, biscuits and one hot breakfast item. The orange juice was not really juice (possibly Tang or Orange Kool-Aid). However, they also had apple and cranberry juice which tasted real. We didn't use the outdoor pool but it looked ok and there was a lifeguard on duty. If you go to the Inner Harbor do not eat at any of the chain restaurants (ex. California Pizza Kitchen, Houlihans, Cheesecake Factory) they are understaffed and the portion size is worse than other locations. Do yourself a favor and eat at the mall across the street from the hotel. They are less crowded and the food is good. There are about 7-8 restaurants there including TGI Fridays, Chilis and Don Pablos as well as small local eateries.

Stayed there on a Saturday night during our trip from Rhode Island to Virginia. The staff was great, the breakfast was great and fresh. I was traveling with my wife and 3 kids and was willing to sleep 3 in one bed and 2 in another. But they offered a rollaway bed free of charge so we only needed to sleep 2 in each bed. Also a very clean place. The trolley was also a plus to get around the area. Would definitely stay at this hotel again!
