Our party of 8 dined at Shula’s 2 (the sports bar & grill style casual restaurant opposite Shula’s Steak House) on Tuesday August 12, 2008 before an event 2 blocks away at First Mariner Arena. Reservations were at 5:30 and our show was at 7. The profusely sweating waiter took pains to make us go around the table starting with the person on his left first for drink and then for food orders. Anyone making a change out of turn created big confusion. When he came (15 minutes later!) with our drinks he almost spilled the tray on us, then proceeded to have 2 people in our party pass them out (…so why bother asking for the order so precisely?). Forty minutes after ordering when we requested assistance from the manager, he responded that a lot of people were trying to get to the theater. When the food arrived shortly thereafter, salads and sides were missing and some dishes were given to the wrong person. Many of the dishes were not placed in front of but were handed to a person – actually the waiter would hold it in suspension above the table until someone noticed and took it from him. The food was satisfactory, if you consider overdressed salad and dried out hamburger buns okay.
This place should be ashamed of itself. There is no appearance of any pride in the place or its workers. Because of its proximity to First Mariner (and many other destinations, including the Sheraton in which it resides) and a lack of other nearby establishments, they have a captive audience. Instead of taking some pride in the Shula name and in hometown Baltimore, these guys have a mediocre place with passable food, poor acoustics, and outdated TVs (2 of which were mounted directly above our heads). One member of our party who because of logistics, has had to hold a number of business meals here and at sister establishment Shula’s Steak House, confirmed that our experience was typical of Shula’s. Baltimore has scores of fabulous restaurants – don’t perpetuate the mediocrity by eating here!

We just had our dinner at Shula's Steak house recently, and we were so dissapointed about the service, especially with Ms. Rachel, she really got an attitude! just because we didn't order an expensive wine or the most expensive steak, she didn't gave us the proper service, and you can really see from her face that she was annoyed with us! what a terrible service! definitely will not come back! if i were you guys, i'll ask for another server if in case you want to come!

“High price, mediocre in other areas”

Shula's had been recommended by freinds, so 4 of us went last Tuesday expecting a memorable dining occasion. It was memorable, but not in a positive way. To start with our waitperson seemed insulted that we didn't order their overpriced wine; when we ordered mixed drinks she said " you won't like the price of the mixed drinks either". Well, the price of the mixed drinks wasn't bad except that a glass of house white wine was $10. Added to this, the drinks took almost 25 minutes to arrive - after our salads had been served.
On a positive note, the salads were excellent. I'd love to know where they get their tomatoes in December. As far as the entrees are concerned the 2 filets were excellent, both in preparation and taste. The rib eye was decent but not exceptional. The Kansas City strip steak was perfectly done and pedestrian in quality, containing significant amounts of gristle and not very tender. I've had much better steaks from Safeway. Lastly, the creamed spinach was luke warm.

“Better take out a second mortgage”

I just read the other reviews of this restaurant and had to add my own two cents (which is about what you will have too, if you choose to dine here!)

Two of us went for dinner last Saturday night. Most of the entrees are printed on the football that sits in the middle of the table, but they're pretty boring. Our waiter recited the "specials" at 90 miles an hour, but neglected to mention the prices. (In a moment, you'll see why). My companion ordered a steak and crabcake combo; I chose two 5 ounce filets made with a peppercorn-brandy-cream sauce. Her entree (no sides mind you, they must be ordered separately with separate price tags) was $56! My entree (and those steaks were tiny) was $40. Remember: this is Baltimore --- not LA, not New York. And here's the kicker: the food was not even good!

So! If you are coming to this fine city to dine, do NOT come to Shulas Steak House. I live here and can recommend much better places to eat a good steak with a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon on a white tablecloth that are in the downtown area, that serve better food, and that won't leave you feeling like you have been "had". Here are my choices:

Five star: The Prime Rib, Ruth Chris Steak House, or Charleston.

Four star: Brasserie Tatin, Petit Louis, or The Brass Elephant.
