Virginia

I'm a medical student going through rotations at Johns Hopkins and am actually a commuter from Virginia. Because of my crazy rotation schedule, I stay during the week in Baltimore at the Wilson House. I've been booking there since November of last year (2007). Trust me, I've been through some other B&Bs in Baltimore and was just having the worst time with OTHER properties. Luckily, I happened upon Guy and Clelia and the Wilson House. I can't say enough about their graciousness, hospitality and the comfort of their home. I have tried a number of their rooms and they are all wonderful. I do stay most times in the Aviary or Newport because I do have to watch my pennies. I'm in the same category as the "starving artist" and have to be very conservative in my spending. But I tell you that I AM NOT suffering, as a matter of fact, I still can't believe how spoiled and lucky I feel. My stay at the Wilson House is providing me with that home feel and comfort that is helping me survive through some very difficult days. When my rotation in this area ends in November, I'll be very sad to bid Guy and Clelia adieu, but will count them among my dearest friends.

My girlfriend and I stayed at Guy and Clelia's lovely B&B for 3 nights over a long weekend. The B&B was easy to find (per Guy's advice, be sure to follow the instructions on their website instead of a Mapquest or Google Maps search). Parking is ample along either of the 2 streets over whose intersection the large B&B presides. Our room on the 2nd floor was spacious, airy, beautifully detailed, and very comfortable. We enjoyed 2 delicious and healthy breakfasts. One esp. nice thing that Clelia did for us was provide a Peruvian home remedy for stomach ache one morning after we were unable to enjoy the breakfast she'd prepared because we had enjoyed ourselves a bit too much in downtown Baltimore the night before. Her paico tea was just what we needed to get us back on our feet and ready for another day's exploring. Guy is an affable host with a keen and knowledgeable eye for the beautiful collector's objects that are on display throughout the inn. For overall value and comfort -- and to fulfill that promise of unique appeal that is the whole reason for choosing a B&B -- the Wilson House is a 'must -try' for your next Baltimore visit.

The Wilson House in Baltimore is one of the worst B&Bs I've stayed at in my life. When visiting this great city I would not stay here again. The problems with this inn fall into three categories: 1) location; 2) poor-quality service; and 3) unattractive decor.
We stayed here last month. First, this is situated right off Interstate 83. One can hear traffic noise constantly. One of our family members compared it to NASCAR.
It's also situated in a neighborhood that feels isolated and doesn't invite walking. Plus, there is a long walk to get to any nice areas to stroll around, and one has to cross a couple of main boulevards.
Worse, however, is the lack of quality service from the owners. They have set up a situation in which visitors almost have to ask them for everything. For example, the inn says on the Web site that there is an evening hour of wine, cheese, and tea daily. Ha! We sat in the lobby/living room area waiting for this on the first night, and finally had to ask the co-owner. She seemed irked by this request and then went to the kitchen and came back with a plate of Ritz crackers and several slices of cheddar cheese plus a small amount of wine -- for 5 of us!
During breakfast, the other co-owner talked constantly to the guests about his life and his experiences. It was as if this was his stage. Also, when I attempted to lift up the creamer, he grabbed it out of my hand and started telling guests how much the set of dishes was worth -- $100 for the creamer and $50,000 for the set. If it's so precious that one can't touch it, why use it for breakfast for all of the guests? The food was just OK. All in all, the hosts were not service-oriented and seemed annoyed by questions or requests for things one would normally have easily available in a B&B.
Thirdly, the decor is very unappealing. It is crammed with all manner of items and pictures. I would call it Late Flea Market era. All in all, one could do far better to find another B&B in Baltimore.

The location of this B & B is very convenient to downtown. However, it is on the fringe of a bad neighborhood. One of the guests had the car broken into while parking on the street. The cost to stay is very reasonable, but the breakfast offering is limited and did not care for the fact that we were eating on expensive china and we were reminded both days that the cups cost $100. Do not appreciate an innkeeper that feels compelled to boast about what they own. Also, not helpful in suggesting sightseeing ideas.

What an elegant and historic home - lovingly and carefully kept under constant restoration. My wife and I booked our stay at this location in order to be close to Artscape Baltimore, a premier annual. arts event of which I was an artist exhibitor. Guy and Clelia were charming hosts and very accommodating to my needs as an exhibitor.

The home is amazing... Absolutely beautiful woodwork, interesting floor plans, and well-appointed furnishings. Guy took the time to explain the restorations which had taken place and were continuing... We were pleasantly surprised to note some genuine Art Nouveau ironwork which had an interesting story accompanying it. If you go and are interested in such things, ask to see it..

We stayed in the Newport Room which was affordable for starving artists such as myself. The room was clean, neat, and well appointed. We shared a spacious bath with an adjoining room. Our stay was brightened by interesting breakfasts and conversation with our hosts and other guests. We were also within walking distance of Howard Street restaurants.

We had a great time and only wished we had more time to spend with our hosts.
