I stayed at the Inner Harbor Days Inn when I attended an EMS conference in March. I had attended this conference previously, and had stayed at the Hyatt (*bleagh*) and the Sheraton (not bad). This year I was planning the trip on a budget, and that left the Days Inn.
Wow.
Was I surprised.
On my arrival the staff was friendly and accommodating. Check-in was a breeze, the lobby was intimate and immaculate. The entire hotel is NON-SMOKING...yes!! $200 a day fee if you're caught pollut...er....smoking in your room. There are only 2 elevators, but compared to the sloth-like lifts at the Hyatt, these were bullet trains. The room was small but spotless and inviting. Two full beds, newish mattress sets that were quite comfortable to sleep on, and no questionable stains on the quilts. Bathroom was smallish, with a commode and tub...sink and mirror were in the room in another niche next to the closet alcove. The shower was great; good pressure and you didn't have to wait a year for hot water. The room included a small fridge and a microwave; the Sheraton and Hyatt did not. Nice touch, if you ask me. The closet was an alcove without a door for your hanging items, the iron and ironing board, but hey...didn't bother me. Typical TV/armoire setup, with typical hotel channel choices, and pay-per-view movies (no I didn't watch any porn!) One of the nicest perks is FREE in-room wireless Internet access.
That's right....FREE!
Costs $10 a day at the other, more expensive places, and the free service was much faster! There is a nice desk to surf the Web from. The in-hotel restaurant was good too; typical hotel-inflated prices but the food was yummy. Free USA Today if you want to get dressed and go down to the front desk and grab one. In-room pod coffee maker worked great, and the coffee didn't suck either. The pool was covered due to winter, but the workout room was nicely appointed. Self park for $18 a day (cheaper than the other places by $2/day); bring your ticket to the front counter to get it activated so you can come and go as you please by inserting it into the gate machines in the garage. ATM in the hotel lobby too. Easy walking distance to Camden Yards, Metro Station, the Convention Center, and Inner Harbor attractions, even for a chubby chum like me. Street noise isn't too bad, although there must be a Fire Station near, as sirens were audible quite often.
Minuses: ice machine on my floor was broken initially; fixed in a day. Candy machine ate another guest's money-it was also fixed quickly. Prices for the vending items were the same as you'd find at the local CVS...not inflated like the other hotels. Also, one wall outlet in my room was dead, but only a minor inconvenience.
I highly recommend this hotel especially if you're just looking for a comfortable place to sleep while you visit the Inner Harbor area. Save money by not staying at the other, higher priced locales.
