I purchased my room through Hotwire, so I got it for a steal. I ran into problems starting with parking. The ticket machine got jammed and it took FOREVER to get help. The parking attendants treated me like I was a moron. The food in the restaurant was okay. The ambiance of the restaurant was depressing. If I stay there again, I would probably venture out, if I knew where to go. The room was okay. Basic amenities. Again, great considering what I paid. The hallway looks dark and dreary. Checking out was a nightmare. Their computers were down and they promised to send me my bill via email, but I never received it. Imagine my surprise when I got my credit card bill and the bill was for twice what it was supposed to be. It took two weeks of phone calls to Hotwire and the hotel and faxing bills and credit card statements to finally get it squared away. But overall, not bad considering what I paid.

“Great location whether a tourist or visiting on business”

Holiday Inn Baltimore - Inner Harbor

I spent 12 nights at this hotel in Jan 2007.

First the good:

- Location. The hotel is located 10 mins walk from the Business District, 15mins walk from the Inner Harbour, 5 mins walk from the baseball stadium, 15 mins walk from the Federal Hill district and about 25 mins walk from the Falls Point District.

- Staff. The staff are attentive and Jim the barman deserves a special mention and he provides excellent service and will keep you entertained all night.

The not so good:

- Rooms. The hotel has been refurbished however the decor of the rooms is quite old and this may put some people off. There is also no minibar although you can buy drinks at the bar at take them to your room.

- Location (yes it can be good and not so good). The hotel is located slightly on the West side of Baltimore, which is not an area you want to be walking around after dark. I was warned by people that I work with and Jim the barman not to ventrue any further west at night.

- Fire station. There is a fire station opposite the hotel and when they respond to calls in the middle of the night the sirens are not quiet!! I always take earplugs with me when I visit hotels so this wasn't really a problem for me but it something to be aware of.

Overall:

Overall the location of the hotel is very good whether you are visiting Baltimore on business or as a tourist. The staff are very good, rooms are clean and I would stay in this hotel again if I visit Baltimore. Just remember to take earplugs to drown out the noise of the fire engines at night!!

“Terrible Experience”

I don't know who wrote all these great reviews; but let me tell you the truth. This place is worn out, worn down, and tired. The old grey mayer aint at all what she once was. I don't know if the carpet, furniture, or bedspreads were clean but stained or were they just filthy. I didn't sit in the chairs and never let my bare feet touch the floor. We were there only one night because we promptly checked out early the next morning. When we were delivered to the room our bell person told us we were lucky because we were in the newly remodeled part of the hotel!!!! wow!!

Had i known i could post photos as part of the review process, i would have taken pictures for everyone to see exactly what i am describing.
Don't let me forget the staff. Other than our bell boy, who was very nice if found services to be sub-standard and people to be rude.
The bathroom was not well cleaned, the shower couldn't knock the water off you; but i was able to find 2 towell out of 5 that i thought looked good enough to dry us off.

I stayed at this hotel for two weeks and really enjoyed my stay.

STAY IN THE MAIN BUILDING. The west building is not as nice.

My room faced the ball park, was spacious, very clean and the bed was very comfortable. The internet worked well and I was very happy there during my stay.

The hotel restaurant serves and incredible breakfast. Jim, the bartender was terrific and the coffee shop was an added perk for a quick morning coffee before work.

The location is close to everything. It's located about a 10 minute walk from the harbor, near public transportation and two blocks from the Hippodrome. Starbucks in only two blocks away.

On the downside, the downtown area is filled with a lot of panhandlers.

    • Any tips/secrets for future travellers? — Stay in main building. Not in the west builidng.

“Glad we made this choice”

Holiday Inn Baltimore - Inner Harbor

We just returned from a week in Baltimore and had decided to stay at this hotel after reading all the reviews posted here about it. My husband was attending a conference at the Convention Center and had been given several other hotels as choices but their prices were consistently well over $200+. Though there are a few very negative reviews here overall what we read convinced us to try it and we're glad we did. It is very easy to get to, located several blocks from the Inner Harbor bordering on the west side but the area was fine. My young daughter & I walked everywhere during the daytime from this location and never had a problem. The hotel staff were all pleasant, check-in/out was smooth and our room was very clean. We particularly enjoyed Dottie's Cafe located next to the lobby as it was cheerful and offered coffees/lattes, etc as well as fresh salads, fruit and sandwiches in containers ready to take to your room if desired. We ate a couple of times in the hotel restaurant, nothing super special but decent and varied food choices. Our 11 year-old ate from the children's menu for free. Probably the only thing that bothered me was that a couple of the seats were very worn and one was even torn in several places. The fitness area was really nice, clean, a good number of exercise equipment. We heard the pool was the largest in the downtown hotel area; it had a lap pool, sauna, etc. Unfortunately we were so busy being out and about that we never did use it!
