I had to spend a couple days (one night) in Baltimore on business. Every rental car in the city was booked and no hotels were discounting. It was Preakness week and the Red Sox were in town. The hotel website had me believe that it was close to the inner harbor, etc. Here's what I found - a hotel off a highway exit in a very bad part of town adjacent to a truck stop and a low income housing project. The hotel has a free shuttle but takes a while to get where you want. I wound up taking a cab a couple of times. The "free" breakfast was awful and served (not served - everything is on a wooden table and you grab the food and nothing is hot, no eggs or anything like that) on paper plates. The room was okay. I had to pay close to $200 (company paid) to stay at this dive. I tried to save my company some money as every half decent (not even great) hotel in town was over $400 per night. The hotel staff is nice. But this hotel can't escape what it is.
