My 3 year old daughter and I accompanied my husband on a business trip in October and we were booked at the Tremont Park Hotel. In summary, many of the personnel had serious attitude issues (lacking any customer service skills whatsoever) and the rooms were dirty, smelled of cigarette smoke and had maintenance issues. Following are the details of our trip:
We checked in on Friday night and for 3 people, were given a small room on the second floor above the lounge. Although we requested a non-smoking room, the room reeked of "stale" cigarette smoke. The bathroom was very tiny and dirty (hair on floor and toilet). The sink was an old fashioned wall hung sink which is fine but there wasn't any vanity space for toiletries, etc (especially when there are 3 people booked to the room. We kept our toiletries on the floor.). The outlet was nowhere near the sink/mirror which made it difficult if you were using anything electric (i.e., shaver, hairdryer, etc.). We had a sofa bed for our child but there were no blankets or pillows in the room for the sofabed.
First night we called room service to ask for bottled water. We were told there was no bottled water in the entire hotel. One would think that if you are a hotel in a city and you run out of bottled water, it would be an easy thing to remedy.
On Saturday, I put a sign on the door to have the room serviced. Upon return, I noticed my daughter's baby blanket was missing. It must have been accidently taken with the bed linens. I called down to the front desk to report it missing and was transferred to a housekeeping line which no-one picked up. I had to call back to the front desk and request that something be noted so a search could begin. Instead of taking a note, she suggested I call back in the am to check with housekeeping who gets in at 8:00. I had to insist that they take a note and description of the blanket (the blanket was monogrammed with her name and birthdate so I thought this information would be very helfpul in locating it).. However, they were insensitive and there was no assurance on their part that the missing blanket was a priority.
On Saturday night, we had to return from dinner early since my daughter had a severe ear ache. In the hotel booklet, it states if you need help with medical emergencies, to call the front desk. We called the front desk to ask for help with finding a nearby pharmacy but they were no help whatsoever. We used the yellow pages (which they nastily referred us to) and called various pharmacies to find the ones closest to the hotel . So now, we have a sick child without her baby blanket in a dirty, smoky room with an insenstive hotel staff. By the way, don't rely on the area information in the hotel guide since it is not up to date and gives inaccurate information on open days and hours.
On Sunday morning, I had breakfast downstairs and asked if there was any luck with finding the blanket. They replied no but that they were looking for it. On late Sunday afternoon, I followed up with the front desk on the status of the blanket (now a different employee) who's reply was "What did they tell you this morning?" I thought this was a nasty reply to a normal follow-up question. Not once did they proactively call me with a status and each time I followed up with them (only twice a day), I received an attitude for it. We had our room changed on Sunday and requested a larger room that was not smoky (especially since we had a sick 3 year old). We were reluctantly given a larger room on a top floor but this room had maintenance issues (toilet was clogged, breakers would go out, etc.). Also, they offered no assistance with helping us move our luggage to a different room. In fact, we accidently left some of our toiletries in the bathroom and when I called down to ask if we could get them their reply was, "it is too late, the room was already serviced and rented out and the toiletries were probably thrown out. You can call the room yourself if you like and ask the new guests if they see them."
On the last day, the head of housekeeping was at the front desk when I asked for another status on the blanket. She interrupted and stated "Maam, my staff are good employees and they don't steel". I was appauled since I never accused anyone of steeling anything and told the woman that I thought it was a legitimate accident with the laundry service and was only doing my part in following up. She backed off at that point but I came to the realization I was leaving this hotel without the blanket and there was no chance of us ever getting it back given their lack of responsiveness to the issue while we were still guests. In fact, on my way out, I used the hotel restroom which is opposite the laundry room. I had to just check the laundry room before I left and the worker in the room helped me go through some of the shelves. To my surprise, there were many baby blankets. Unfortunately, not ours. Looks like they have issues with accidently removing things with room service and not returning them.
There were numerous other service issues and they all stemmed from nasty attitudes of specific staff.
In fairness, the dining room/kitchen staff was pleasant and the food was decent. However, I would never return to this hotel and would highly recommend that all stay away. My husband also informed his company so they never book at this hotel again.
