“A Savannah Attraction and Restaurant, too!”

Our trolley driver told us about the Pirates House, so we hopped off the trolley and walked a block over to the quaint old building site for lunch on a Saturday in April, 2008. We enjoyed looking around outside and in the lobby while we waited for a table--there are lots of cute pirate oriented displays and items--good photo opportunities! The buffet looked good, and lots of customers were enjoying it, but we opted for ordering off the menu and rated our food good, but not great. The service was courteous and very prompt initially. The decor was cute, and we had fun with the paper pirate hat and earring, and with the costumed pirate that was roaming around.

“Dissapointed with such a cool place”

The Pirates' House

First they lost our reservation that we gave 2 hours before we got there. They were accommodating though and seated us right away. This place is huge and has many dining rooms, but ours was the "Garden Room" and it sucked. No green to be seen. The service wasn't great either and felt rushed. Also the music was terrible and wrecked the ambiance of this cool place. For such an interesting type of restaurant with history do I really need to hear Boston, The Scorpions or any other Hair bands? I think we would have preferred elevator music in this setting then that. Food was decent and prices were too. I would go here again, but I would be more cautious about where we sat. Maybe the music will change the next time we're down there.

“Not a culinary experience to remember”

The pirates house was recommended to us by the local staff at the visitors center. The building itself was interesting, and a nice historical point of interest. The restaurant experience itself left much to be desired. The place is dusty and dark; the tables and chairs are tired and haven't been replaced or repainted since the 80's. The menu was tired and stale. My food was bland and tasteless. If you're a fan of Ponderosa or old country buffet, you might find this restaurant exciting and right up your alley. If you are looking for a true culinary experience, I'd suggest trying elsewhere.

Looking for a real dining pleasure? The Pirate's House gives you delicious food (the best fried chicken I have ever eaten!) and a great lesson in local history. I just got back from Savannah and I wish I could be eating at The Pirate's House right now! The lunch buffet far surpasses the "other" southern lunch buffet across town. This is truly an amazing place!
