My husband and I, both teachers, wanted a fairly close to home getaway before the new school year began. We wanted a reasonably priced hotel, close to things, with a continental breakfast. We were shocked to find Oglethorpe Inn and Suites to be such a reasonable rate! We paid 75 dollars a night. Our room is a suite with a living room and bed room, pull out sofa, chair, coffee table, desk, coffee maker, microwave and mini fridge. We have free wi-fi, a complementary newspaper each morning, and a more than ample continental breakfast. We have a king sized bed in our room and a full length window, (french door like) overlooking the pool.
The bathroom is adequate- nothing fancy, but everything works. There is an iron/board, hair dryer, enough hangers for 2 people, and getting fresh towels does not take an act of congress.
The lobby is gorgeous- modern and updated, but in keeping with the historical feel of Savannah. Our friends are staying around the corner in a a regular room, not as nice for $10 more a night.

The suites were very nice and spacious. It was great having a min fridge and microwave. There were also a lot of hangers which is abnormal, but great! The pool was nice and warm and larger than some of the newer hotel pools these days.
There were a few things I didn't like. The breakfast was not very exciting. It was the bare necessities and they ran out of a lot of things like juice and pastries. Also, the milk and yogurt were warm. As far as cleanliness of the room- It was clean upon arrival and the supplies and bed were kept up nicely. However, we had made a small mess of the breakfast muffins and it was never vacuumed.
Overall, the hotel was good for the amount we paid. I would stay there again, but not count on the breakfast filling me up.

“Great place to stay in Savannah”

We had no idea where to stay in Savannah and we did not want to pay an arm and leg. We had just gotten AAA and decided to stop by their office and ask for advice, we needed a pool and asked for a place that was under $100.00 a night. They suggested the Oglethorpe and we made reservations. It was even better than we had hoped for, the room was large and actually a large suite, the pool was nice and the whole property was lovely and clean. Our week night stay was actually under $70/night . The staff was friendly and helpful, and the property is very conveniently located in town near restaurants and stores, etc. There was just the two of us (adults) travelling, but there were families staying there too and we did not have any trouble with noise. We liked this place very much and will not hesitate to return when we come back to Savannah. I filled out a comment card and we even got a thank you letter from them after we got home.

“Not so great”

We booked this hotel based on posted reviews. We were quite disappointed with our stay. The room had a very damp odor as if the room had been flooded, the bathroom was very dated with a stained tub and toilet and we had no hot water two mornings in a row! We called maintenance and they stated that the water must have run out. But how can a large hotel run out of water and two different times of the morning (once at 8:00 am and at 10:00am)? So we ended up taking cold showers both days.

The complimentary breakfast was dismal, they had cereal and coffee but no milk! And we came down at a decent hour, not towards the end of the time that breakfast was being served.

The only plus was its proximity to downtown. We will definitely not stay here again. Do not recommend at all.
