The Doubletree is an okay hotel at the edge of the historic district. It's an easy walk to everything. Front desk service is fine, and the concierge is wonderfully knowledgeable. His advice was spot-on every time we asked for guidance.
Rooms are clean and the beds are terrific. The bathrooms are a bit dated. The most disturbing thing is the fact that the hotel sits right on busy Bay St., and you can hear all the traffic, all the time, even up on the fifth floor (there are only six floors in the building). There is a strip of hotels on Bay Street. If I were booking a rip again, knowing what I know now, I would have booked one that is not on a busy street.
We paid $159 a night, which for a touirist town is probably not bad. I don't think I would want to pay any more than that for this hotel.
They have a pool and a whirlpool, but they are not indoors, so think twice if you're considerig staying a this hotel to have the use of these facilities. Much of the year they can be a real attraction, but Savannah can be chilly in the winter months -- nights in March here were 35 degrees, we found. So the poll is not really much of an option then, unless you're a lot hardier than we are.
