“Great, but rooms seem a tad small and where's a fridge?”

The hotel was clean and nice. The staff very friendly. The business center with 2 PC's was nice too. The rooms seemed a bit small for it to be a "double tree". Also, usually when you're in a tourist destination like Savannah is, there susually are small refridgerators in the rooms. Traveling with a 1 yr old, having a fridge in the room is really nice because otherwise I end up having to keeping milk and some things the baby eats iced down. The hospitality room (that our small family reunion used) on the 5th floor with a balcony that overlooks part of the city, was great. It's certainly the most beautiful hospitality room we've ever had.

We were supposed to stay at the Hilton garden Inn, but when we checked in they overbooked so sent us to the Doubletree sister hotel! The hotel was nice. great location... not a far walk from city market or Paula Deens! Other than having to be moved it was great!!! Beds were comfy!

“Weekend Stay”

We just returned from a weekend (2 nights) stay at the Double Tree Hotel Historic Savannah as we were in town for a wedding and to visit family. This was a fairly nice hotel, although I felt that the service was somewhat lacking.

We stayed in a handicapped room as that was all there was available when we booked. This room was fairly nice with a king size four poster bed and large bathroom. I felt that the room was small by the standards for Savannah and a typical size of a New York hotel room. I question whether the room would actually be large enough for someone in a wheelchair as there was not much space between the TV amoire and the bed. The bathroom was very large but was seriously in need of a good cleaning.

The largest pro about this hotel is its proximity to City Market, River Street, and Bay Street which are the heart of the Savannah tourist area. It is easy walking distance the primary sights that a tourist would like to see. The location is hard to beat.

The hotel staff was not rude but they just seemed indifferent. There was never any rush for them to help someone who was waiting even if they were clearly on a personal phone call.

The hotel offered a breakfast buffet which is not free except for Hilton Honors Gold or Diamond members (which is why we ate there). I'm not sure about the cost however the food was mediocre at best and I would be disappointed if I paid to eat there. The food was only lukewarm which does not make for good scrambled eggs. Skip the breakfast and head to the Hyatt for a lovely breakfast/brunch overlooking the river.

One oddity of this hotel is there are no interior stairs which means long waits at the elevator to only ride to the second floor.

we went to Savannah for three days in April and loved the hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was beautiful with a four poster bed and a great whirlpool bath. The hotel is just a block or two from River Street and directly behind the city market. Take the Oglethorpe Tour bus and try to get Margie as your guide. She is fantastic and funny!

“Not what it used to be”

We had stayed here previously (Feb 07) and rebooked without qualms. However we felt that things had declined slightly since our first stay.

First of all they were booked completely that weekend and I felt the service definitely lacked as a result.
The breakfast buffet was disappointing. I would never have paid money for that (we got Hilton Honors coupons). The newer furniture in the room is plastic-y and cheap looking.

On Saturday we left the hotel from 11-4 and our room had not been cleaned when we returned so we told the housekeeping staff we would go to the pool so they could attend to it. There were no towels at the pool and it took three phone calls to the front desk and a 45 minute wait to get them. Our room had been cleaned when we got back.

When we left the hotel to drive to dinner, I noticed that the valet had (inadvertently I believe) left stray pen marks around the ignition switch. As if he had started the car with a pen in his hand. I brought this to their attention and they attempted to clean it to no avail. I filed a claim to have it looked at and struggled for weeks to get the valet manager on the phone.

What irked me the most was that I filled out every survey from Hilton after returning that I had an unsatisfactory experience and received only an automatic follow up email. I tried to contact that person at corporate to no avail and finally weeks later received a letter in the mail from Doubletree's insurance agency. I am a Diamond VIP Hilton Honors member and I could not believe how much worse my treatment got after we checked out.

Needless to say I will NOT be staying here for our next trip to Savannah. I may not stay in Hiltons beyond this experience.
