We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights on a busy holiday weekend. I was impressed with the location and look of the hotel. We waited about 45 minutes to an hour after check in for our bags, which the valet brought to the wrong room. After this delay, we were able to get ready and missed a dinner reservation. Anyway, the furnishings in the rooms were very nice and the room was quite large. There is an above average fitness center near the pool. The next morning we were woke at 9 AM with banging on the door and then the maid opened it. To me, that is pretty early to come in! She asked me if we were going to need any housekepping. I said yes and that we would need about an hour to get ready (we were traveling with a child under 3). She said she would be back in a little while. We left for the day around 10 and returned at 5. We returned to discover that she had never returned to the room and the beds were unmade, there were no towels, the garbage wasnt emptied, etc. We had to wait again for room service and almost missed a dinner cruise that we had prepaid over $100 for.
I think this is a very nice hotel but was not impressed by the service overall. The valet and concierge staff were very helpful, however. With all the other choices in the area I dont believe I would stay there again.

After staying three nights at the Savannah Four Points, right next door to the Doubletree, I decided to try this hotel for my last night in Savannah. I found it generally comparable with the Four Points, but overall liked the Doubletree better because I found the setting more elegant and traditional. Basically, your choice between the two hotels should probably be based on whether you like classic hotels or very contemporary ones

The rooms in the Doubletree were spacious and beautiful with high, four poster beds and dark wood furniture. They had a wonderfully knowledgable and friendly afternoon concierge, but an unfriendly morning one. The check in staff was very pleasant and smiled a lot.

The location was sort of a mixed bag. It is right on the edge of the historic district and was very convenient to most of what a traveller would want to see in Savannah; the marketplace, the river, and easily walkable to the historic district. To get to the river cross the street and walk on that side becasue they were (in May anyway) doing repairs on the sidewalk near the hotel.

The only part of the hotel I really didn't like was the food. I ordered room service and although the food was quick, it really wasnt very good. The breakfast buffet the next morning was horrible. It had a traditional hot expanded egg buffet, but the eggs were powered and not even warm. It was also hard to get coffee from the indifferent serving staff.

The Doubletree Savannah is located at the far end of the River and City Market, so be prepared to walk some to get to all of the activities located around the downtown historic area of the city.

The hotel was going through a minor renovation over the weekend of Memorial Day 2008, but not noticeable. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

There's a library room, study, & free computer room for the guests of the hotel.

The pool is small, but on the 2nd floor away from the street to make it quiet (the Days Inn Pool boarders an alley with only fence separating it).

We didn't eat at the hotel, but there's a small bar off the lobby with a few televisions and sofa's to relax in. Valet is really the only way to park at the hotel, it's not expensive, being covered and underneath the hotel.

Our room was nice, the A/C worked very well (a must for Savannah), we couldn't hear any noise from either the hallway or other rooms. The bathroom was large w/a two person spa tub (worth the $10-$20 extra per night).

Overall, a good experience, would stay there again or next door across the street at the Hampton Inn.

This Doubletree is located in the northeast portion of Savannah, but in walking distance to a lot of the local attractions. It's about 2 1/2 blocks from The Lady and Sons, 3 blocks for the riverfront district, and 2 blocks from the horse drawn carriage rides. The hotel itself offered the typical Doubletree scene, nice comfy beds, courteous staff and cookies in the evening. Parking cost $15 to valet. The biggest disappointment was that the pool was closed during our visit due to heavy rains apparently. We had to go across the street to the Hilton Gardens pool. It was a pain, but at least they made the attempt to accommodate us. Wish there was a place to eat breakfast at this location.

When we come back to Savannah, we would probably stay at the Hilton Gardens. It's directly across the street and serves breakfast daily.
