I had read the reviews on this hotel many times before I decided to take a chance and booked this hotel for 4 nights. What a good decision on my part. My main reason to book this hotel was the price. I just could not spend $250-$300 a night on a hotel. I had other things I wanted to spend my money on, LIKE FOOD! We shared a room with our grown daughter and our room was large enought for the 3 of us. Our queen sized beds were comfy and clean as was the whole room. We had a ground floor room and we heard no street noise, bridge noise or noise from the many little girl scouts running around. I do have to admit that we tired of the breakfast after the second morning and ate at Clary's Cafe for the last two mornings. That is another review I will write after this one. The staff could not have been nicer. I used their computer and printer many times and when the printer ran out of paper they gladly refilled it. The desk clerk always asked me if I had any problem using the computer because sometimes it was slow. They helped us many times when we asked for directions and printed any directions off for us. The breakfast staff was very helpful, getting more fruit when I asked for it. The hotel was a couple of blocks from the historic district, but we were picked up a couple of days for tours (reviews to follow) and then we drove and had no problem finding parking. I would certainly use the Comfort Suites again when I visit the "Lovely Savannah".

I love Savannah but this hotel has to be one of the worst in downtown Savannah. The managers of this hotel need some additional training on how to deal with problems that arise and with conflict. Here's my story:
Day 1- We get to the hotel and check-in was a little slow but other than that everything went fine. We get to the room and it was quite spacious. The bathroom left a lot to be desired. It had a certain kind of smell that we tried to kill with air freshner but it didn't work. There were marks on the wall and it looked like no one had tried to clean or paint over them. There wasn't any tissue in the tissue holder.
Day 2 - I wake up and my friend told me that she found something in her bed. It was a disposable razor blade! She felt something in the middle of night and found it in her bed. It was a good thing that she had socks on her feet that night. We were both disgusted because we figured that they hadn't changed the sheets on the beds. We went to the front desk and asked for the manager on duty. This is when some of our major problems began. The manager came out and my friend showed him the razor and explained that she found it in her bed in the middle of the night. He said that it wasn't possible that all the sheets on the beds were changed daily. My friend and I said how could that be if she found a razor blade. He disappeared and then the executive housekeeper came out and asked if she could help us. We told her about the razor blade and she said all the sheets were changed every day and she even goes behind the housekeepers to do a white glove test. We never got a apology from either of these people. If they would have apologized and said that they would rectify the situation we could have lived with that. My friend contacted the main headquarters of choice hotels and told them the story. They said there wasn't much that they could do because these hotels are independently owned. We filed a complaint over the phone. We couldn't do much else because we had to leave to go on the Paula Deen tour that morning. When we came back from the tour neither one of our keys would unlock the door. We went back to the front desk and told them that our keys didn't work. They said okay and acted like they were reactivating the keys. About that time the manager that we had spoken to earlier came out from the back office. He told us that he had been contacted by coporate about our formal complaint. He said it was obvious that we weren't happy there and that he could comp us for the first night and help us find another hotel. We agreed to that so he asked one of the ladies behind the desk to try to find us another room. She called around and she couldn't find two available nights in a hotel in the downtown area or midtown. the manager came back out and said that he wasn't kicking us out and if we wanted to stay the next two nights we could. My friend and I discussed it and we figured that was our only option. We asked if they were still going to comp the first night and the manager said no but that he would five us 10% off. the manager told me that he viewed the video tapes from the cameras and he saw the maid exit our room with sheets so the sheets were changed. I still didn't get an apology and we felt like they were calling us liars. We tried to call around and we couldn't find a room anywhere for the next two nights. So we stayed.
Day 3 - We decided to go to Tybee Island for the day. We were having a great time. While we were at Fort Pulaski, I saw that my friend's mother had called and left a message. Comfort Suites had called her and said that we needed to come get our things or they were going to pack them up. We were suppose to get out of the hotel. We tried and tried to call the hotel. the phone rang off the hook and no one would answer. We were afraid that they would throw our belongings out into the street. We drove back to Comfort and as you can imagine we weren't very happy. This was "the straw that broke the camel's back"! We got back to the hotel and asked for a manager. We spoke to a lady who was the manager at that time. We told her about the phone call and she looked in the computer which said we were still booked in our room. We said someone had called my friend's Mom from the hotel and said that we needed to come get our things. She said there wasn't anything on the computer about someone calling us. We told her again that someone called us and that we weren't making it up! About that time a nice young woman who had tried to help us find a hotel the day before came over. She said that she remembered us and what had happened the day before. I guess when they went to put his back in the computer the day before somehow it ended up only showing that we were staying for one more night instead of two. She saw the mistake and put our name back in the computer. I don't remember her name but she was the only nice person on staff. She had more sense then either of those two managers. She took it upon herself to ask around until she found the person who made the phone call to my friend's mother. We told the manager that we didn't want to stay there for the night. She said that was fine but we would have to pay for the room that night. We said oh no we weren't going to pay for another night. After everything they had put us through they wanted us to pay for another night!!! She told us that she couldn't authorize not charging us for the last night! She had to contact the other manager that we talked to. They tried to contact him and weren't able to do so. There were at least three different people who walked into the hotel at that time looking for a room and they told them they didn't have a room. They could have had ours. It had been cleaned while we were gone so it would have been fine. She told us if they could find another person to take the room at the same rate that they wouldn't charge us! The nice young lady that helped us went up to the room with my friend to make sure it was clean Finally they contacted a different manager and she told them not to charge us for that night.
I'm sorry that was so long but I felt like everyone needed to read it and decide for this self if it's worth the low price to stay here. I forgot to mention that the mini fridge in the room freezes everything. Someone a the hotel got their purse snatched the second day we were there.

“Not a bad hotel”

Comfort Suites Historic District

Just returned home from a stay at the Comfort Suites-Historic District in Savannah. Hotel was clean and comfortable. Towels were soft and the breakfast was good. This hotel is on the outer edge of the historic district but is still within walking distance. I felt completely safe even though public housing was across the street. The staff at this hotel were not the friendliest people I had ever met, but we had little contact with them. Overall, this hotel is a nice hotel for the rate. It is pet friendly and for me that is most important. There is a big grassy area in the back for dogs to walk. I would recommend this hotel to others.

We loved Comfort Suites. When a friend booked our stay there, I checked the reviews and wondered what she had gotten us into! None of my concerns were valid. We found the staff to be helpful, friendly, and considerate. We enjoyed the morning breakfast and definitely enjoyed the afternoon wine and beer "happy hour." The pool area was clean and pleasant. Our room was lovely with a high vaulted ceiling, small refrigerator, and sitting area. The beds were luxurious. The bathroom was immaculate. There is a computer in the lobby with internet access for hotel guests.
While other reviewers questioned the housing project across the street, we saw very few people there, and the homes were neat and well maintained. We walked from the hotel to River Street for dinner and took a cab back only because we were tired. Hotel staff arranged for the tourist trolley shuttle to pick us up in the afternoon for the last round trip of the day (free) and we used our all-day trolly pass the following day. It's an easy walk to Paula Deen's for lunch (get your reservation time early).
I would definitely return to Comfort Suites for reasonable prices, helpful staff, comfortable rooms, and above average amenities.

We found our stay to be very pleasant. I had read reviews and was a little nervous about the location, but found it to be no problem. Since we didn't have a car, i was afraid the walk might be a bit much for 2 older ladies, but it just took a few minutes to get to River street (for great seafood) and city market and the free shuttle. Organized tours pick you up at the door. If you find yourself too far away to walk, cabs are not expensive. I
have stayed in comfort suites before, so i knew what the room would be like and found it very comfortable. It is one of the most affordable hotels near the historic district.
